Group buy sounds like a good idea! I'm in also (my car had new wishbones fitted at the last service but it's always good to have a spare set) thanks!

"I have started taking mine apart today and I have a seized bolt in a rear bush. I'm going to cut it out and I have decided this is the moment to replace all of the bushes. Would anyone be interested in a group buy of replacement bushes?"

Id be in for this too. Second the vote of thanks for all those who have responded to this issue and indeed flagged it up in the first instance!

Absolutely in for a group buy and can I also express my gratitude to Mark, Drew, Rob and all the others who have stepped up to the mark for this. Well done guys and thanks.

All I'd like to say is that the Maserati community is one of the nicest I've had the fortune to experience. There doesn't seem to be that clique that you get with a lot of hobbies or interests.. I've met people with £100k new GranTurismos and those like myself with sub £10k 3200's and we all love each others cars and not sensed a hint of snobbery or "us and them". I firmly believe if it had been somebody else other than me who had this experience they too would have stepped up to help the rest of us out.

I don't hold out much hope for anything happening with Maserati because it's generally those with the most expensive lawyers and best connections who win through, and on that count I have no chance.. however if we manage to stay safe now by getting them properly checked at each service then that is at least something.

Excuse my ignorance (and not read whole thread) will this affect GS, 4200 and 3200?

Dave

Dave, I believe so. Although the 4200 arms were modified and I think maybe the GS arms are slightly different again, I have a 4200 arm here which is cracked. The manufacturing process is still the same and the general feeling is it is that which is the culprit, not necessarily the design per se.

Thanks Mark - well said about the forum by the way - I am a lurking potential buyer and everybody has offered advice / insight etc without any qualms.

Quite refreshing really......

I might be interested in seeing your defective arms, seems you are fairly nearby. Maybe a sunny day drive and meet for coffee?

Yes not a problem, I dig them out as was replaced about 6months ago, I also take a few photos to show the product code number and damaged area image.jpgimage.jpg I take one of the damage once I find them in the garage.

I completely agree with all of the above. I thought I was buying a car, but ended up with so much more.

Having had a look at the Eurospares lists it seems 3200 and 4200 up to 2002 (plus all spyders) use the same bushes. Late 4200 and GS appear identical but different from the early versions.

Are the bushes for lower arm a replacement part*?
Does a new arm come with bushes pre-fitted?

* edit - found on eurospares
looks like bottom bushes are £72 each (item 3 labelled Flanbloc ), so about £150 each front wheel in parts alone.

Is this the preferred solution?
Are better bushes available?

The bushes are listed separately so yes, I believe the new arms come complete with bushes and brackets for the ARB.

I was going to give them a look too, although they don't list them for the 3200...

Just filling a basket of parts

lower wishbone refresh, bushes, nuts, bolts and washers. For both inner and outer.
Doing ARB drop links, and mounting bushes /hardware too.
New balljoint rubbers/washer/nut

So far adding up to £493.28 for 50 parts.

So assuming my wishbones are still in good condition, it is still quite a cost even if I do all the work myself.
Is there enough saving on labour costs to buy myself a two post workshop lift? :)

Don't forget the £200 for full alignment set-up afterwards! Are you using genuine Maserati parts from eurospares or the superformance versions? How are you planning to pull the old bushes and press in the new ones? There was suggestion earlier in this thread that you needed a special tool.
