Had to check that this really was a 4.2 auto on a 16 plate and it is. Never seen a 4.2 post the Sport coming out in autumn 2012:

The late 4.2 has a funny parts box spec with a GT Sport steering wheel with larger paddles, still got the 2012MY 4.2/4.7 auto seats, 2012MY 4.7 auto body kit (chrome grill, small skirts, no winglets) and the upgraded 20" birdcage wheels that most people seemed to put on the 4.2 when it came out in late 2007.

A really rare car that might appeal to someone.

I imagine that's a late registered car? it's not actually a MY 2016 car

Why would you spend 50k on a 4.2, given the choice around? It must have a story, perhaps sitting unregistered in a showroom in Hong Kong or that kind of thing?

Not necessarily. The 4.2 was listed for quite a long time after the Sport came out. I just hadn't come across someone who had bought one! BTW agree with the comments on price people are making.

I'm pretty sure you could order a 4.2 until last year. Although why you would want to is anyones guess.

Here are 3 (hastily snapped) pages from Maserati's price guide book from around 2014, showing the 4.2.

Checkup from the neck up if you pay that..I’d not give a penny as I’d have the 4.7 all day long.

Your logic is right. Ever since the 4.7 auto came out in 2009, 4.2 sales evaporated since the price differential was too small. Bit like finding a non S 911.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a quarter of all 911s are non S. I see a lot for sale.
