Is it possible for a UK citizen who has no address in the States to open a bank account there?
Money is due to be paid to them but stipulation is it must be paid into a US account. Person will not be moving to the States.

Hi,

Not really answering the question fully but I had to use my mother in laws address in the US to set up a US bank account, before I got my own address over there.
i'm sure they would not let me us my UK address.

But there may be ways.

Does your current bank have any branches in the states? My experience, each countries bank rules are different, I am British, but live in Sweden, and cannot open a bank account in the UK. Pathetic really.

Not actually for me but no is the answer.
I know someone who is a USA citizen and they had a bank account in the States and then opened one with the same bank in the UK. However they lived in the UK.
I see the problem being the US bank not opening an account as the person is not resident there and wont be. They have no "family" in the States where they could use that address. Not sure about Paypal.

PayPal would be a simple option. If that is a non starter perhaps American Express could help. Bare with me:

Pre PayPal days I used an UK AMEX account for transactions in the States. They were happy to temporarily change the account address details to that of a friend there. Given the IBAN was US based by default, hey presto, you got a US current account. Albeit temporarily as and when needed.

Maybe worth giving them a call and "no" I don't work for them.

I believe Money Laundering regulations prevent you from opening an account as you indicated.

You have the option to incorporate an llc in Delaware without being a resident, submit for a company number and open a us bank account with that.
Obviously this has some overhead costs that are only justified if it's a significant amount of money or a regular thing.

This is an individual and money being paid in will be a monthly pension so it would be regular but wouldn't be a huge monthly sum. Pension company apparently have said they will only pay into a US bank account.

I used to have a USA Bank account and used it regularly until the branch discovered I was using a personal bank account for business and they closed it.

They told me then (about 7 years ago) that if I wanted a personal account I would have to provide a US address and a Social Security number.

Thanks all for replies. Will pass this on. Would guess with the change in political climate in USA since Trump is in the hot seat that it won't be getting any easier.
