I know this is the wrong section, but I need some quick advice...

I've sprung a leak in my transmission... there is a transmission fluid low warning on the display inside the car and fluid under the gearbox... its booked in at Grimaldis and recovery is on its way, but what's the best way for them to load the car?

Can I shift it into neutral without turning the whole thing on? Can I stick it in neutral and turn the engine off? The car is in the compound at work, so I can't check or test anything till I get there at about 9, which is when the loader is booked for!

Just want to limit the chances of burning pumps, accumulator, etc....

If the fluid is low, the pump shouldn't run, so that's fine.
Problem will be that if the car is in gear, and the pump won't run, you can't get it out of gear.....
Maybe get the recover to throw some fluid in quickly drop in N and off you go. Or they may have to tow with the rear wheels off the ground (ouch) or lift vertically....

That's pleasing to hear that the pump won't self destruct, it did select a gear yesterday, so hopefully it has enough fluid to do it again, can I put it in neutral then turn the car off?

Shouldn't self destruct. It's only going to take 5 seconds anyway.

Sure can. It might bleep at you....

Just read the manual, so for future reference...

To select neutral for towing (Page 195)

Key to MAR
Press accelerator
Pull both paddles to engage nutral

Well yes. Pump still needs to be running... (well pressure needs to be operating in the F1 system)

No idea why the accelerator needs pressing, mind.

Perhaps it has this system in for exactly this scenario. Pressing the accelerator instead of the brake electronically puts it into neutral. Cant say I've ever noticed it but wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Who know what the Italians were thinking but fundamentally if there's not enough pressure in the system ti can't move, and pulling the paddles should make it go into neutral anyway.

<shrug> :)

If all else fails the recovery guys should have some wheel dollies for this type of issue.

This is how they moved one of my cars a few years ago when the transmission locked up. Simple safe and effective.

Car safely on the transporter - Im not sure what pedal combination put the car into neutral in the end - all i know is the method in the manual didn't - my first assumption was not enough pressure, so pressed the brake too and clunk we were freewheeling!

Hopefully its just a split pipe... in a very easy to access position! there is always hope... always!!!!
