ULEZ is expanding

One of the reasons I went EV last year was to beat any forthcoming legalised theft for driving my car where I want, without paying every time I drive somewhere. As many on here may already know, I had a Ghibli Diesel which was EURO6 compliant, although I had to get a letter from Maserati before that would be accepted. However it became apparent that along with ULEZ expantion, how long before existing compliant vehicles began attracting a new charge. In my view this will start with a small relatively insignificant 'fine' aka charge, as always to get the huge number of people it will effect used to the idea of having to pay, before going stratospheric! And sadly I fear this wil, be both Diesel and Petrol, no doubt beginning with non hybrid drivetrains.
Whilst changing my Ghibli to a mid eighties GBP EV makes no rational financial sense to get round the charges, i can't help but feel a little smug whenever i drive into central London charge free ( at least until end of '25), and then make use of City of Westminster meters that cost a little over a Pound for four hours!
From a social perspective, this can be construed as entirely counter intuitive. After all anyone theoretically who can spend that kind of money on a new car, should be expected to contribute more to the local community, whilst someone who can't afford to buy a new EV or indeed even a newer car is slammed with all the charges!
Compared to any other form of taxation, its all rather upside down...
Maybe compared to most cars seen driving around the West End, my car is at the decidedly poor end of the scale!

Does seem to be the wrong way to go about things, however there do seem to be rumblings that large electric vehicles will be moving up the un-liked / make them pay ladder in the not to distant future. Not that its a surprise they will need to recoup some money from when petrol / diesel taxes reduce.

There has been a substantial movement against ULEZ. If you google Julie's map you can see how many cameras have been taken out. I can't see any environmental gain in scrapping almost 1 million vehicles which typically belong to the less well off. There is a ground up anti ulez movement that is being ignored by the mainstream media. I saw an image of a TFL sign reworded as Totally ****ing London. I hope Khan gets ousted in May.

So far regarding central London, EV's of all shapes and sizes are congestion charge exempt until end or Dec '25, and as I said in my previous post, thanks to City of Westminster Council I enjoy vastly reduced parking costs at a meter.
No doubt further ahead there will be charges coming down the line - Deemed number of Tyre particles produced per mile, excess weight of driver (I'm screwed) etc etc!!
Anything to extract money from the motorist....

Absolutely - I suspect many incentives to go electric will disappear in the near future.

All 3200s should be it is just that not all log books show the Nox level in which case a Certificate of Conformity is often needed.

Saw this today being driven in Chelsea and well, it really does stick two fingers up at the ULEZ.

I have never seen one on the road before and this one only has 8k on the clock!

Unique in that colour, originally sold to the UK.
The first owner had an LP400 in that colour and wanted a 25th Anniversary to top and tail the Countach generations. Lamborghini no longer used that colour and refused, but over several months – and with the help of Valentino Balboni – convinced Lamborghini to do a one off.
It spent much of its life in storage – I saw it at Hall & Hall about five years ago sat next to the LP400. Sadly I wasn't allowed to take pictures and it had done 4000km. New owner is adding to that however, he's recently driven it across Europe on a Countach memorial trip. Whereas most people trailered their cars there, heroically he drove it there and back via central Paris.
He's also just bought a Maserati 3500. His insta is Mario.escudero3
