Clean air zone to come into force in Birmingham on 1st June - they had a council official saying everyone will now want to come to Birmingham because of its clean air - yeah right . Take it from me those of us who live on the outskirts have little desire to go to central Brum these days unless essential . It will probably cause more congestion in the surrounding roads and hence more pollution not less - time will tell .
It just so happens that I m currently looking for a cheapish runabout and on the off chance I need to work in central Birmingham or go there for some reason I thought I should buy something ULEZ compliant - this is where it starts to make no sense eg - there are 10 year old diesel cars with £ 30 yearly road tax that are not ULEZ compliant whereas a similar petrol vehicle often the same make are up to £ 500 a year and classed as ULEZ compliant . I was under the impression the road tax pricing was based on emissions - am I missing something here can anyone explain this
