Tyres fitted at home

First time I've used these chaps TyresOnTheDrive.com and I'm very impressed.

I needed three new tyres for the QP - two rears worn out, and one damaged front (almost new too :( ) had to be replaced. These guys were within a quid of MyTyres/Delticom delivery only price, for exactly the same Pirelli Rosso rubber, but that included fitting plus disposal of the old tyres, whereas MyTyres doesn't.

Can't fault the system; I booked them online, got a call with the hour to check I'd picked the right sizes (slightly annoying, but I'm sure they get quite a few people who don't order the correct size), and because I didn't need to prebook a particular slot for yesterday, an email on the day to confirm when the chap would arrive. It costs £4 from memory to book a specific time slot.

Chap turned up on time in a Merc Sprinter, fully kitted out with everything as you might expect, smart, polite, petrolhead - everything that KwakFart and the like are not. The tyres were absolutely brand-new, not old stock - the DOT codes were checked and they were manufactured in week 35 of this year. The fitter treated the rims like Faberge eggs, spent ages setting up to ensure the machines wouldn't damage them during fitting/removal, checked pressures and torque settings with me - the works. It was like dealing with a race team mechanic, who had perfection hard-wired into his brain. After fitting, the wheels were photographed on the car, and the DOT codes recorded into their system before I paid.

Faultless service, and I didn't have to leave the house, nor have to sit in a foul waiting room while a tyre-monkey drove my car and worked out of sight.

I'll give them a go. It may be that your local guy is a good one and as Chipsaway proved: for every good one there are several fuckwhits, but it does sound promising.

Sounds like you found a good one there Drew. Shame they don't come over this far as we're not exactly spoiled for choice.

I wouldn't normally advocate the use of Kwik-fit, but to be fair, I used their mobile fitting last time round for a pair of fronts and the guy that came out was pretty good and took great care doing the job. Just down to the individual on the day I guess.

I've used Costco for tyres for the last 15 years without a problem, they have a viewing area so you can see what's going on , if they chipped a wheel they'd probably buy you a new car.

The service seems to have good reviews, alas I wont be able to find out how good they are as they don't serve my area

I agree with Drew it all depends on the person on the day.
Last week I had my winter tyres fitted to my Lexus 4X 4 by a Kent based company called Watling Tyres. When I returned to collect the car I found two broken wheel center caps sitting on the reception desk. I was then given some long winded story how they must have been broken before and glued back in with super glue. I pointed out if that were true then it must have been that branch of Watling tyres as they were the people who fitted my summer tyres six months previously.

They are adamant it is not their responsibility. NowI have to buy two new center caps from Lexus at a cost equivalent to the Tyre change, so an expensive day all round. As a result of their actions they have lost a loyal customer.
