Maybe your right.

Always prefered the hard top with a roll cage and charging through the forest.

The soft top was more a sports car.

Personally, I always preferred rolling around in the forest with a couple of soft tops and charging from behind. ;)

I prefer the hard top to the soft top also. Below is my old 4litre V8, a very rapid car

My mate is an expert on TR7s, possibly the world's most knowledgable on the subject. He owned about 18 TR7s at one point and still owns the only estate ever made!

We bought a Nissan 240RS from a guy who had one of the Leyland TR8 rally cars, he took us for a spin and that was one quick car.

I'm gobsmacked, what a kangorillapig. I didn't think it was possible to outdo a standard TR7 for pig ugliness however, the Grinnell lowers the bar but that thing slam-dunks it. I've never seen one before and I never want to see one again but it is immediately obvious why there was only ever the one built. It actually looks worse than an SM. Truly hideous.

NO NO NO - !!!!!!!

Robin - they were pigs in the 70s and an embarrassment of the British car industry, typical cr$p that came out of BL compounded by the previous glorious era of British sports cars of the 60s and 70s - Princess, Allegro, Marina, Ital, Metro, TR7/8 - they are not renowned for being rubbish for no reason....! I think people are getting nostalgic about the 70s now and it has now extended to the poor cars that were produced then as well...

Well, TR7/8, like a Delorean, a floored car but always attracts a lot of debate and on that merit alone, it should get respect.

Oh, Robin, I really like Deloreans too (don't tell Benny) when you getting one of those, a sure fire money maker in the future.

Ahh the 6R4 what a machine I remember watching these being driven by Tony Pond.

I think lots of the cars of the 70's are unfairly dismissed. Unfortunately in many ways they were let down by the attitude of the day.

Are there many manufacturers that had a good reputation at that time?

Metro 6R4 mate, was a beast! They still race them in Group N today and they still wipe the floor with pretty much anything.

never a fan of the TR7 just seemed like an aircraft carrier dash and bonnet. loved the TR6 a proper sports car, the 6R4 was amazing watching it go round Lydden Hill in the mid to late 80's battling with the RS200. we had one of the road cars from Fords to test drive at the newspaper I was working at and blimey that was quick.

the last time I looked there was one, a Homologation Special for sale with 350bhp for around the £200,000 mark.
