Tyre pressures were all fine, the wear was even when tyres were changed and all was normal.

The rear wheels were stuck to the tyre fitter had to use a rubber mallet to break them free, possibly this put it out of alignment slightly?

I know the car is driving nornal again after the trip to the hunter system.

Why would it, assuming he did it off the car? Even if he did it on the car, I can't see it making much difference. Tracking goes out. Components wear, you subject them to force in all sorts of ways, and then hit pot holes and kerbs. It's part of on going car maintenance IMHO. YMMV

Appreciate wear and tear on components and road surfaces could cause tracking to go out of alignment which happens consistently with my MR2! This car was fine and tracking true right to the garage for replacement and only felt off once new tires were fitted, the hammering must have moved it enough to just feel the difference which the hunter system confirmed.

I suppose the old tires partly adapts to the wear of the rest of the components in the process and get more or less unevenly worn. Then the misalignment will get more obvious with new straight tyres mounted. Even more notable on cars with stiff low profile tyres.
