Thinking of upgrading from a 3200 to a 4200

I fell in love with the 3200 at the first time i saw one. But i ended up with a 4200. The reasons:
1. Gearbox and engine made by Ferrari
2. Sound, a thing that never will be served by a turbocharged car
3. Reliability
4. Gear changes on steering wheel and the hit at your back every time you up/down-shift

What i'm missing:
1.Bonnet vents (no laughing please..)
2. The massive way the power gets delivered

But..the main reason i will never like the 3200 over the 4200(NOT THE GS) is the interior. I believe it's the best ever made interior, re seats, dash etc.

Hope this helps.

I have not driven a 4200 so can't comment on the pros & cons between the 2 models but when I was choosing, it had to be a 3200 for me for many of the reasons already stated in this thread (don't forget the boomerangs of course). Plus, it is a true end of an era car before Maserati fully changed hands once more. Of course, that can also be seen as a good thing which in many ways it undoubtedly is, but there's also something pure about the 3200 which for me got watered down in the 4200 and then GS. Just a personal opinion of course, they're all great cars

Exactly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Get what YOU want not what everyone else likes. If we all liked the same thing the world would be a very dull place.

love the world...we are all different....love it for that reason

I disagree...the 3200 interior is better, they even brought it back for the GS!!

Get what you like, both cars have their negatives and positives.....get what you want......

(as long as its auto on the 3200)

Yup 4200 is not "Full" leather in that is uses Faux leather on certain part of console but who cares? Both are like sitting in a Velvet glove!

I watched a heart wrenching Panorama last night about a British doctor's account of Ebola after he did a 4 week stint for Medecins Sans Frontiers and it showed how grim the disease is. Kids and babies dying and being orphaned a such a rate and it made me think just how lucky we are in this country not only that but how fortunate we (forums member in particular) are to own such beautiful cars and have lives which a large majority of the population can only dream of.

Benny must be away. How can he have missed this thread! :)

The truth is they are different cars. The trick is that they look similar and that makes people think that they are similar when they're fundamentally different. For me, we're not comparing apples with apples.

42 is a better every day car.
32 is a better classic car.
42 better built generally.
32 better looking marginally.
42 sounds better.
32 goes better.

GS better than both.

not sure if 32 has more leather than the 42, but personally being in a 4200 i feel a lot more comfortable. It's all taste and what suits more.
And i believe this conversation between sm members may only be a leg pulling conversation...as kids do.

(but you all know which car is best!!!!!!)

For me, the 4200/GS is all about the Cambiocorsa gearbox that gives you total control at your fingertips and the naturally aspirated V8 that sings around to the 7,500 red line!

I love the 3200 styling, boomerangs, bonnet vents, leadloaded A pillars. I don't like the potential engine niggles, regular cam belt changes, and electrical problems.

Before I bought my 4200, every specialist I spoke too said buy a 4200 if you can afford it, the 3200 are loads of trouble. That swung it.

Fell in love with the 3200 but ended up with a 4200. I still remember the moment I first spotted the 3200 on the highway.

Many years later, I made a testdrive in a 3200 and the CE light went on. "Nothing to worry about". Later I drove a 4200. Gave me a more reliable feel. And the Ferrari-engine and paddles were decisive.

3200's are classics no problem,4200's are better for every day if your brave enough, the GS,well they do look a mess with all that Maxpower body kit stuff(Ferrari was just tarting up the last few old bodyshells)

Car of the day for me is my old Fiat 500,Its never ever let me down once in over 5 years, for an everyday car It's the best car I've ever owned!
