Thinking about this GT

IME whoever does the service won't tell you much about the condition of cars they've serviced. Of course my experience isn't *that* huge. Better to get a PPI.

Plenty of cars that are advertised with FSH don't actually have one either.

Agree with you mate- it's always a mystery to me why they tick and stamp the book but never run through
A full assessment of
The car. Its like doing a medical exam and just
Ticking 'alive' - when they know a bloody great clot is in a cardiac vessel and could clock off at any time.
Surely it's worth paying for an independent inspection to look over it
With s fine tooth comb if any concerns.

I'd say it was serviced by Slaters because they sold it , when I was looking at QPs last year that green frontage was in quite a few Maserati adverts at top money so my guess is they must have a SD3 and the expertise to be working on them regularly

When you're buying a used car that has had multiple owners service book or not you have no real idea how it's been cared for, if the mechanic working on it is a qualified main dealer tech or whether it was done by a trainee because he was on holiday or off sick , Sir your XXX is worn would you like us to fix it , no just the service

At 9 years old all you can do is get it inspected and make a decision based on the report, at 30k with that mileage it's at private sale money , buy it on finance and you'll have way more protection than one bought in a private sale

I think on a GT I'd want it to be done at a specialist for sure as they know the cars like the back of their hands and have all the correct diagnostic equipment which is a must on these cars. I think he should realise that really but clearly he wants to spend as little as possible on the car. I think you need to go back to him and ask him what the best price is he can do without changing the tyres and doing the service.

Yeah I get you, but he's already said he ain't lowering his price and he has "a couple of other people interested".

I'm going to leave it and see what else comes up, this guy can barely write English.

If its close, look at it. Then walk away. Unless if feels good. If it does, low-ball an offer subject to full checkup.

All these experiences, especially the ones that don't work out, make the next one easier to handle. Do it as an exercise! Car dealers speak so much BS I wonder if they even believe themselves.

Oh, and it's wonderful dabbling with someone else's cash!

That old chestnut. I remember looking at a car at a main dealer once and them telling me "someone else is interested". So I told them to let that person see it and if it is still for sale, let me know. Of course they back-tracked straight away.

They are trying to find out how interested you are in the car so they can get the best money for it.

I think you have to listen to your gut though.

You aren't totally happy with it full stop but the pull of wanting one makes you try to explain away things you are not happy with.

That certainly is cheap!

C

Crashed then repaired with a list of faults some of which could be related to the crash ,30,000 more miles , needs a wheel refurb , private sale

Even at 24k it makes the first one look like the bargain of the year

It is the one I would be looking at, it does look good in the pictures. Reasonable price too, who knows after a bit of negotiation?

This is on a different planet. Proper history, recent service, great colour, low low miles and the same price.

Don't mess around trying to find a diamond in the rough when there are clearly well maintained cars around for the same money. You stand to gain nothing and risk losing your shirt.

Yeah I had been looking at that one but it's got Skyhook and I'm not keen on the black interior with the blue, and I'd rather go for a car with front parking sensors, so I'm going to sit tight and wait. Now I've sold my Porsche I have the cash sitting in my bank account waiting for the right GT. :)

Surely all 4.2s have Skyhook?

It is the GTS which came without skyhook and they are very rare cars as most were specced with Skyhook. I've said it before best buying on condition and history with these and not because you don't like the colour!!!!
