So I get the opportunity to join this thread.
Yesterday on the M1 up to see friends in Yorkshire for the weekend, developed a misfire on the motorway. Pulled off at Barnsley and she cut out at the roundabout. Started reluctantly, every warning light known to man illuminated, and ran like a tractor; smell of burning wasn't a good sign. Found the first place to pull over pulled the bonnet and found one of the coil packs had burned out.
Called the RAC and must say they were very efficient. Patrol van was with us in double quick time. The RAC man took one look and declared it was a VW (swear filter redacted the abbreviation for Volkswagen Audi Group - go figure) coil pack and he had a spare on his van. He did, the body was the same but unfortunately the connectors were different. Cue frantic phone calls, on a Saturday afternoon, around all the motor factors he could think of. Sadly he drew a blank.
Our friends will be dropping us back to London, luckily they will be heading that way anyway, and the QP will be making its own way down to McGrath's.
This has been my first time in over thirty years of driving Italian cars that I've broken down on the road. The RAC man told me shipping the QP to McGrath's will probably cost them around £900 in storage and delivery. I guess they've had their money from me over the years.
