So the dealer had a look and problem was no fuel. They took out the fuel tank to check the pump and in doing so it started to work again. They jiggled all connectors and suggested we try it again. Alternative is fit a new pump but we don’t know for sure that was the problem. It could have been stuck or a bad connection. Cost of pump £650 so I’ll first check it out. Cost to diagnose, dismantle and re-fit £70. Then a oil/filter/air filter/new brake fluid service as nearly due for £560 including towing it in. I reckon not too bad.
Update on this: the car is still at Maserati for damage assessment by an independent assessor from the tow Incident. See here https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/warning-towing-winching-a-qpv.35205/page-2
But whilst they had it the fuel starvation problem arose again and they actually found the cause. There was no voltage on the fuel pump connector. Totally random but the fuel pump fuse is a bolt on affair on the positive battery plate. Someone had put an M6 nut on the M5 thread and it must have loosened and the fuse was arcing. Very happy they positively identified the problem though!

Yes, best possible outcome..problem diagnosed, no expensive parts. Kudos to the dealer for continued testing of the car and then actually finding it.

After several months of further 'OCD' restoration by myself she got dropped off to the Indy yesterday morning, for its major engine out service+cam belts which is due now. Plus whilst the engine cradle is out- replace perished rear suspension bushes all round, shocks repainted and Koni stickers, replace failed alternator, AC compressor and system rebuild for later gases, leaking radiator repair and some other minor restore bits such as brand new fuel distributors+injectors. Hopefully have her back on the road by the end of the month to enjoy the summer.

When I was at AV last month, there was a TR there having the same engine out treatment for it's service - still a stunning car in the flesh - even on the lift it has such presence, enjoy the summer with it

My 1.6 was brilliant, think yours is the later fugly one but assuming it’s the twinspark they’re a great proper Italian style engine.

Certainly the facelift version but not sure it's fugly, 1.6 Twinspark and 3 door shell which has always been my favourite

Wonder if they changed the key on the later ones, on mine you couldn’t put the parking lights on as the key covered the button, Italian character!

Perhaps a little, but the bomb proof German vehicle dropped a valve into cylinder 5 and BANG plus it happened the minute I drive off the ferry in Denmark for a 10 day holiday so I wasn’t best pleased. Needed a complete engine rebuild by Hartech who specialises in the M96 engine. I was glad to see it leave.

Ouch, I Imagine that hurt someones wallet
