The £30k barrier

So I have been looking for a few months now for the 'new' sports car to replace my second 4200. It would seem that the GT is floating just above the thirty k line for about a year now...as is the V8 Vantage and DB9.

I suspect once a few drop below this line then there will be a realistic chance for quite a few more to follow suit before the summer ..or am I kidding myself?

I don't think so, and with newer models coming into the fore prices are bound to come down.

You'll likely find that prices go up as we come into summer as people come out of hibernation, so probably not a good time to look.

Not sure...Prices don't seem to be moving down on those cars unless they have silly miles on them.....I think the GT will hold firm this year just above 30k......DB9's have not moved for ages....I think you need 35k for a decent earl one...and the V8 is still desirable and again 30k needed....Don't think they will move price wise anytime soon.....

It's worth keeping a lookout to see if the GT's are actually selling. There's always a whole bunch for sale, and there may even be more held back - who knows?

When these cars are taken as part-ex, it is always for a pitiful amount, so it might always be worth making a cheeky offer and seeing what happens. I can't mention any names, but I know somebody who was able to get 16K off a new GT in the last year, due to stock issues and the selling institution wanting to get rid.

Nothing new on getting good discounts off a new car. Discounts off stock cars are easier if they have been around a while and are stuffed with extras. Still doesn't mean you get a cheap car, you just get a big discount!

Cars often find a price level and stick there for a long time.R8's haven't moved much since I bought mine over two years ago, Gallardo's dropped to £50k, went back to £60k and have been there for 4 or more years. The GT may stick at the £30k mark for some time, its crystal ball time though, even the 'experts' don't know most of the time.

I've been looking for a GT/s for a while now around about the 50K mark and things on ebay are stagnant! I've been looking at the same cars for about 2 months now so it doesn't seem any cars are moving. The prices alter up or down a couple of grand depending on how many calls the dealers receive that week but the cars are still there. I think at the moment it's a buyers market and you could go in with a silly offer and get it accepted.

Get your name in with a few respected dealerw and they'll give you a nod as and when they get something in that meets your spec. Dicky Grace (Richard Grace Cars), Nareman Virk at Nuvola London and Gary at Bowker Maserati are all good guys and fanatical about selling only the best cars.

Feel free to fire across any links if you have your eye on something. The collective wisdom / opinions / gut reaction of the forum will always be forthcoming!

It's quite normal for specialist cars to take a few months to sell. Dealers in the know are aware of this and act/price accordingly.

Yesterday I contact the dealer selling this car and that price is just to get people interested before the auction on the 8th. I did see a GT with low mileage for sale (57 plate 27k miles) a few weeks ago for £29,500 must have sold relatively quick as Its no longer available.

Private sale at that price?

Who knows with these things. I can't believe the price of 3200s and 4200s. Especially when you compare late 4200s price against a Gransport. To me it does not make much sense. Also, the price gap between Gransports and GT seems to have vanished, which in my opinion is very odd. I think that there's little doubt that the GT is an iconic Maserati.

I think there are a lot more 4.2 GranTurismo's than GranSports which explains pricing. Also the GS is being held up as many have low mileages as it is seen as a different car.

4200 prices make little sense but they have been weak for a 3, 4 years and as more and more get into the wrong hands, prices will continue to fall for most cars.

I'm hoping your view on 4200 prices is wrong and they start to go up!
