Something weird happent the last few months: after not opened the boot for while, before Xmas I was horrified to find the usual swimming pool feature in the boot after I thought I sorted the leak out. Took all the liners off dried it all out and left the liners out with a view to monitor for leaks. For a few days after even though it had not rained, water kept appearing!!! I also noticed there was a lot of condensation inside the wings and above the tank.

Could it be the pools of water is condensation???:frusty6:

Could be but I doubt it. Once the water in the atmosphere in the boot condenses out the 'leak' should stop. Also, it begs the question; why aren't 4200s and GS's the same? Just a thought.

They are Benny , the dreaded boot pool is common to all three cars , i heard it was down to the drain pipe inside the pertol filler cap , water travels down the outside of the tube and then gradually fills the wheel well

I had moist in the boot of my 3200 as well and after some investigation, it turned out that the seal of the rear screen had a tiny hole in it (with age, it dries and shrinks). So, water was finding it's way through the rear screen seal, then it dripped into the hollow space that is beneath the parcel shelf and from there it managed to drip into the boot.

I found this out by first carefully drying all moist I could find, then I spread some newspapers inside the boot of the car and finally I applied the water hose for 15 minutes (or leaving the car outside for a night in the rain would work as well, I guess)

Good luck with your search!

Ok Loz, I stand corrected. I didn't realize it was all three models. I guess, touch wood, I have been lucky as my boot, and wheel well, is bone dry. However, I still say it's more likely to be a leak than just condensation

Is it just the coupe or is the spyder similarly affected? Frank, have you considered the TopGear boot draining technique? The one they used to great effect in Africa. It would certainly stop the boot-pool but it wouldn't really cure the problem!

check carefully you might still be in the maserati sub-aqua club. The boot carpet has an almost rigid backing, which leaves a void onthe boot flooe for water to collect. Take out spare wheel and boot gubbins, press down ******* boot floor carpet, maybe stand in it. I found some ancinet (stinky) water in mine.
FIX pop a drill straight throudh boot floot at lowest point, from the outside.

Dont have this problem in the spyder. but maybe someone else does. the spyder also has a large hood storage space, this is where I would expect water ingress, but thats dry as well.

Dont have problem in Gransport but I know I am one of the lucky ones. I would ask Maserati for help in this matter as it is something Im sure they come across quite often

the weird thing is all through Jan when it was realy cold even though it did not rain, there always seems to be water there. during feb when there was rain it was dry in the well!! I dont get it..... I stood for what seemed hours with a hose pipe watering my Masser , getting so very weird looks, and not a drop when in the boot. Again when it was cold, the inside of the arches were full of condansation and above the petrol tank.
Condansation occurs when hot air comes into contact with cold surfaces. Could it be, as the weather is cold and heating is required in the cabin, this hot air with the normal ventilation flow through the cabin and out of the boot vents, hits the cold panels and condansates? I have to say thought chaps, we all seem to have different experiences with this one so there might not be a common thread through this. I can definetly confirm there is no leak in my boot;just pure water!!

Bill, its a nightmare to find, its either the boot seal, the electrical grommet from boot lid to body, down the fuel filler cap or the seal around the boot well tub, take you pic.

Easiest solution, drill a 5-8mm hole in the lowest point if I were you.

Like a leaking roof, it is a nightmare to find where the leak is coming from. Water travels and it need not be from an obvious point.

Some info back from D Lovetts.......................

It sounds like the people suffering with water leaks could be suffering from more than one issue.

We would check the Maserati Bootlid Badge, Rear Lamps and how they seal to the body, the panel seams in extreme cases, the aperture seal can appear in good condition but can distort and not mate with the bootlid correctly and finally the plastic base at the bottom of the wheel well is not always a tight seal.

This is not apparent when doing water tests whilst the vehicle is stationary, but when on the more the turbulent air underneath the car can drive the water in to the boot if the plastic trim does not seal properly.

Having said that, it could be none of the above, but certainly a good place to start. There were not really any specific bulletins issued on the subject of water leaks unfortunately.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Been lucky and not had a drop over 3 years...then again I don't take it out in the rain and its left indoors.
