wow so glad your ok and its fixable. I'm with Matt on this - Just when my confidence in these cars was returning.

so back to checking these every time !

Alfi boy, thanks for the update. It's not comforting because it sounds like you can't anticipate this failure by inspection. Was there any possibility that at some time the car was run/slid into a curb or had an accident involving the suspension? Are those the original wheels?

hladum, no damage in my 3 year ownership to any part of the suspension or wheels, wheels are original equipment just refurbed in Bright sparkling silver!
There really dosn't seem to be any specific trigger for this other bad luck.

Could you not claim on your insurance as an accident from a pot hole or similar ?
Just a thought.

I was tempted Phil, but the peice of road it happened on was the best stretch you could hope to find, how rare is that

Sounds like a lucky escape indeed - and hopefully an isolated incident. Not sure VOSA do anything with a single report. If it were my car, I would submit one anyway for the benefit of any who follow the same route.
I was just thinking about getting my own 3200 back on four wheels after the wishbone saga. Feeling more than a little trepidation again.
