I wish I had days like yours when I was your age. I had to make do with the sight of Saxo's for my excitement...it's a pretty good job they didn't have widespread use of digital cameras back in the late 90's or else the internet would full of sh!te pictures!

Which dealer do you prefer then Adam....Graypaul or Lamborghini?

Tough call, Lambo Manchester is the largest lambo showroom in europe and they do get nice cars in there but i prefer Graypaul as the variety of cars theh have in from classics to 458's to Enzo's is very different from your usual Ferrari dealer.

To be fair, you could say that about 10-15 years ago. I remember when I first passed my test, at 17 years old I got a new Saxo with 2 Years free insurance (was cheaper to buy one on finance and get the free cover than buy and insure a shed...crazy huh!), it cost me £28 to fill it up at 47.9p / litre and I got 10 points in the first two years without losing my licence (although how I didn't cause damage to myself and others was more luck than judgement).

These days...well, it's just sh!t all round isn't it!

I passed my test in 1997 i was 17 and even then it was completely different to now....
No cameras, no expensive road tax, no £1.49 fuel prices.....if only to go back to 1997......in my nova gsi......

I started school in 1997. Nova GSI, bet that was nippy as Nova's weighed nothing.

10 points in 2 years, gee wizz, were they all for speeding??

Erm...yep! One went to court hence the extra point but all were lucky....the way I used to drive I could've easily lost it. Not clever, not one bit but when you're young, nobody can tell you. Heed the advice Adam...it's much tougher these days (in fact, I still don't know how I have my licence now...so I need some wood to touch...ah, the sun lounger I'm on will do ;))

Same year as me Dem...those were the days huh? :luvit:

I had a part time job at tesco to fund it......

Yep, you didn't need a lot then. My student loan paid for my Saxo (still remember it...£189 / month on a PCP for a new Saxo VTR with the insurance included....I bet you'd struggle to insure a car for that at 17 these days). Part time job at Comet selling a load of extended warranties paid for fuel, beer ad girls!

D@mn!.....just to be that age again with no responsibility, no mortgage to worry about (just moaning parents who never got their board money!) and just a simple easy life.

I would love a Saxo VTR as a first car, it is possible to get one for the right price but as my dad is a car man, he knows how bad they are and how many lads have been killed in them. 100bhp in a car which weighs less than a tonne. mega.

It seemed pretty good car in it's day and had the lure of cheap credit and zero insurance cost but these days....no, just no!

I'm sure you can do so much better!

performance wise the VTR is still one of the quickest cars you could get as a first car, but there are like you say, better cars out there.
