Doing an oil change and the new washers I ordered are the wrong size. ID is about 2mm too small new 28.5mm vs old 30.5mm) so the washer won't go over the threads of the plug. How is that even possible...? ordered from Eurospares.

Guessing I'm re-using the old washer, again, which interestingly isn't copper for some reason..

Can anyone shed any light please?DSC_0471.jpg

We can't even get them through Wurth.
It's a Maserati thing we have to get them from the factory well certainly here in New Zealand.

I picked up a few spare washers from my main dealer, and the ID is 22mm, OD 30mm, and copper...so maybe they have supplied me the wrong size too?

Also if u have to use the old washer take a fine file lightly to it to remove any burrs. The washer has to be completely flat to seal. Lay the file down on the bench then rub the washer over it a few times till burrs are gone

Good idea. The other one is to put some wet and dry on a piece of glass...

So we're all re-using old washers then?

Mike ID of 22mm is way too small. I'm going back to Claudio at ES to see what he says.

I reused mine because I forgot I had bought a new one from Eurospares.

Last time I ordered stuff from Eurospares I included an assortment of screws and they managed to get most of them the wrong size so its possible the same happened to you with the washer.

Any suggestions of how to flatten oil stones with a groove worn in?

C

I havent tried it but see no reason why course wet and dry wouldnt work here too. Glue the paper down on to flat glass (reasonable thickeness glass so it doesn't break) and use oil as the lubricant.

What do you want to sharpen on the oil stone?

I stopped using oilstones many years ago. Japanese water stones are the ducks nuts.

I use them on chisels, plane blades, kitchen knives, butchering knives. Razor sharp finish in a quicker time than oil stones.

Knives. I have have some diamond impregnated 'stones' but have yet worked out a way to mount them. Do you have links to what you use?

This is what I have

And yes, when I use the ultra fine one to polish the edge it comes up lovely. I see you can get them in boxes these days as well

I Cant recall which brands I have but King sounds familiar.
I have the following grits : 300, 1200 6000 plus a Nagura. I have never needed the 300. This would be useful if you needed to reshape or remove a chip . The Nagura is used to make a slurry on the finishing stone and for flattening high spots on other stones.
LUBRICANT IS WATER! NOT OIL.
