Nice to see Roderick Williams back in the squirming chair again this morning , already calls for him to be sacked from his post , the guy needs to be disbarred for life and more

Yes, he seems very very poorly equipped to deal with anything.

Isnt that confirmation bias that was talked about
No. That would be if I saw conflict and tension, which I don't. But if the thread starts to drift from sensible debate - which such threads are prone to do - then it'll get closed. So if you all want a good healthy and informed discussion then keep calm, enjoy yourselves and carry on.

No one, but we know from history that threads on emotive topics can escalate fast.
Seems to me Ive been hearing similar all day long from the POL hierarchy giving testimony , as in the general assumption that people will act a certain way

Spent most of my life building IT systems, mainly for retailers, but the idea that something like this would not show up in testing is unbelievable which then only means that parties forced through a system that was flawed. Even worse when it became apparent in the real world they tried to firstly deny it and secondly cover it up - heads should roll but it won't be the ones that should be responsible it never is, some poor IT tester will get sacked and that will be that.

Same here for ‘interesting’ tasks and large corporations. No hiding places….. which still beggars belief that this happened. There is an addendum to a court document which goes into detail about the s/w problems - dry but fascinating.

Followed it from CW and Private Eye over the years and Arbuthnot was our MP. PE dogged reporting and BBC radio progs but it took a TV drama showing the real human tragedies to blow the lid off this.

My Brother contracted to the POL for over 20 years as a systems analyst , Initial contract was to reduce fraud within the parcel force system catalogue company returns and the like , 2nd contract to upgrade the post office parcels/ parcel force and introduce the barcode tracking system , he was basically a contracted hatchet man , closing over 1000 post office collection points including staff and developing 20 or so larger scale hubs across country to ready the company for privatisation , Last few years working mostly with fraud again but nothing to do with sub post offices ( I bet he is pleased now he never took the offer to move down south and work on the Fujitsu side )

Slight drift: Early this AM BBC R4 Open Country a fascinating prog about postal paths in Cumbria and countrywide rural areas. Postmen and women walked routes ~15 miles a day delivering mail and acting as a mobile post office. Well worth a listen to appreciate the service and high regard the ‘GPO’ as a Shap resident called it, was held. Still true today but in danger of being lost, maybe?

Where I grew up in Cumbria the post men/woman's delivery van was also a community minibus... free ride along the route but as one could imagine it was punctuated with quite a few stops... was a great community service though.

Watching van den bogard today , cant believe another senior official is bereft of a moral compass , how she managed to rise in 35 odd years so inadequately is mind boggling , as expected she has fallen into so many of her own lies and denials throughout todays testimony , in a normal world i cant see how she will escape some Scots porridge

In general terms, coaching is available for witnesses prior to court appearances; what to say and how to say it, what not to say, how to avoid straight answers, etc, and some organisations offer mock 'court' sessions to prepare witnesses and add credibility to the way they present their evidence. I haven't watched all of the PO witnesses, but there is a familiarity in many of the answers I have seen; "I can't remember", "I'm not sure", "I'd have to check", "I don't think I was responsible", these answers from very senior people who are/were paid huge salaries to know exactly what's going on.

Have they been coached? Maybe, but even if damage limitation is the order of the day I don't think I would sacrifice my reputation for any employer. That said, I've never had a mega salary and gold plated pension......

My husband’s cousin was a postmaster, quite a few years older and now dead. His life sort of fell apart several years ago and everyone assumed he’d gone off the rails a bit, failing health etc. It now turns out he was caught up in the Horizon scandal. He was too upset and ashamed to tell his family and children how the successful business set up by his own parents had folded. His son has now gone through his father’s paperwork and found out what happened. It suddenly all made sense. I’d never met the man, but I was told years ago that he’d ended up being a bit useless, closed his shop and then died. Absolutely terrible.

Personally I feel it's about time that some former CEO heads should roll (custodial sentencing) including confiscation of Pensions for such imcompetence, that has destroyed lives, caused suicide and is still impacting people despite exoneration. You are a CEO of a firm and should know EVERY nuance of the company you are managing. I

Found myself listening these last dew months to the transcripts of the Post Office Enquiry , interesting listening , and in some instances down right shocking at which some complacency was carried out resulting in such devastation for others ...........views on whether some corporate heads should not only roll but end up doing some porridge It looks like tomorrow the bug wigs are giving evidence. From what I've seen from the live broadcast of the enquiry it looks like they are lining up to expose the Directors. Hopefully criminal charges will be brought against them

Bogard, like the others what a lying cow, with selective memory, cant remember certain things but oddly enough can remember not seeing the all important December email of 2010 confirming that Fujitsi could access horizon and claiming only aware in 2017 ish , as said they should do time
