Now that is the perfect stance and should have looked like that from the factory. Lovely car you have there.

A very nice rare breed most of them

Although I have it on good authority that ar5e-sniffing is not to be advised.

Meanwhile, in a back-on-topic shock... Swells, your car is lovely. I especially like the cage. It makes more sense of the large interior and I suspect enhances the sense of occasion and adventure every time you get in. Nicely done.

Valved boxes ? wtf? They are valved anyway, if the car is not in either SPORT or RACE mode the valves are closed or am I missing something about the STRAD that means it has only SPORT or RACE mode?

I followed my car yesterday for the first time and heard all the pops and crack first hand and it sounded great. The sports cats will add that for sure and with your X pipe it will be popping and cracking like space dust sweets from the 80's! Honestly no question do it!

Spacers, why not?

Lowering well I would be worried about affecting the great Strad setup personally and borking the handling purely for an aesthetic point of view. Put the spacers on first as it will "look" lower as the eye is fooled very easily.

Roll cage! **** yeah!

In a 2 seater Strad the roll cage makes all the difference in terms of look and sense of occasion. I think I'd spend money on adding this feature before I spent anything on the exhaust. Fitting spacers and slightly lowering the car are relatively inexpensive things, so I'd do that as well.

Yes, the Stradale has only Sport and Race mode (as well as something called Auto that I don't understand :) ). The valves open in Race and Sport is normal, so to speak.

I agree that trying spacers before lowering is wise, oh great one. Try that first, I will.

The sports cats are £1k less than the back boxes which is a motivator to try that first. I can always sell them if it's not for me once fitted.

Roll cage - MATT, have we stolen Merrian's car to measure up yet? It's **** loads for the factory parts.

Looks great Swells. Can I ask which spacers you used? And when lowering, did you have any settings to go for or was it just a case of look/see? Has it made any noticeable effect on the handling?

Did your car have the cage fitted but no harnesses? I priced up the full kit from Eurospares and had to have a lie down after....

Yes the valves in SPORT mode are the same as on the GTS ie open over 3k rpm, in RACE mode they are open all the time. I'd not waste your money on the back boxes just get SPORTS cats fitted.

I think Matt mentioned trying a group buy on a different thread. They are a lot of money from Maserati....

Thanks - I did a day with the local importer and it was noticeably different to a stock Stradale.

I bought the car a couple of years ago mostly as is, i.e. it was already lowered and had the spacers fitted. It is one of two I believe in Australia with the factory cage. The service guys altered the camber to improve turn-in and I still use the Pirelli P Zero Corsas. I don't have to deal with cold weather here and I actually get good wear out of them, however I'm not running around like a loon on public roads and have spent a lot of time figuring out track pressures and temperatures for my driving style.

Handling wise, it is great on smooth roads and a little skittish on country roads, however it isn't that bad.

Re the harnesses, I only bought the drivers side after a stiff whiskey and I ordered them in April with delivery in December, ready for a track day in early February. They are illegal to use on roads, so the service guys left the original one in to connect in just in case. For track use, the harnesses keep me tight - I've never liked running a track day and not be strapped in properly.

I also had some braided lines made up for the brakes. I absolutely hated the feel of the stock setup when you got nothing ... nothing ... everything. I much prefer to have a solid feel and know that you can dab it and they work and when you need a big pull on the reigns, its going to stop quickly.

It's definitely a car that gets noticed when on the move ....

Anyone fitting should leave original belts in place as well. Not sure if they did when new from the factory but while the harness is a real sense of occasion paying at toll booths etc are a pain in the ****. Had then in my Exige and they were great but a pain in those type curcumstances.

Do it....all GT's need spacers...they look so much better. Swells certainly shows that.

The Strad wheels have a larger offset to the standard GTS so you have to find the right ones. I’d be interested too.

From Maserati the roll cage plus harnesses were £2400 inc fitting. I don't think that's so bad by Maser standards and I'm surprised more original owners of the 2 seaters didn't go for it.

I know £2400 was on the option which as you say for Maserati wasn't bad but if you went to get one from them now is it a lot more as an accessory. Can you still get them from Maserati ?
