and beyond repair in my opinion. most likely registered as a write off also.

... on the plus side, if this is representative of what they're worth as scrap, then I feel more confident buying one and it going horribly wrong. it will always be worth something considerable in unusable condition

A 2000 3200GT not stolen not needed to be recovered went last week on ebay for £6850. And ending today a Asseta Corsa will probably not sell for under £13k. No guarantees on either and therefore who knows the condition but are the break up value of the lights getting close to that :)

Somebody paid over the odds for that IMO. Green, suspension and rear quarter damage does not make it an attractive car. Even looks high for a breaker as one of the all-important boomerangs is smashed.

The grey one that went for £6,850 was an absolute steal though!

'Fraid not Bebe, the AC was a Cat C nearly 4 years ago and has struggled to find a buyer since then. Even £13k would be hugely optimistic imho

the auction may have ended at that price, but the seller is not obliged to actually carry out the transaction. As long as ebay get their fees, he can do as he wishes.

Though the advert text notes that he had a reserve on it, which was obviously met - so I'd be surprised if the seller backs out!

That AC has been discussed over the years - they've been trying to sell it for approximately forever! If you dig around there are some pics of it with some pretty nasty accident damage.

Appreciate all the above (didn't know about the AC), but even if the ebay seller of the GT didn't complete at £6850 that was the best anyone wanted to pay. Don't get me wrong I've got one and I'd rather they be worth more at least if I ever want to sell it. My only point/question was that private sellers are lucky to get more than £9-10 for any 3200GT(A) unless exception condition or very low mileage. Given the price of parts and the limited supply for some of them is there a breakup price floor to this?

Yep, always been the case - need a low mileage (and good history) to get the higher prices. I'd guess an 'average' 3200 probably sells at around £9-10k at the moment as you say. A very low mileage one with the right spec and history can still be worth a decent premium over this...£2k, £3k, even £5k. ACs more obviously. The cost of repairs means that a particularly cheap car can be a completely false economy.

As breakers they're probably worth £5-6k. I think that grey one looked great value on the surface of it - same colour as my 2nd 3200 too, which was a lovely car.

Well done who said it above but since the car is back on ebay obviously the owner didn't take the best bid. Still it was the best bid at the time. Ebay always seem to me to be such a strange place to sell a car which is always going to have small market.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MASERATI-...034&pid=100011&prg=1005&rk=1&sd=251180725805& - now with a fault not listed last time.

How do you know that the owner didn't take the best bid? It met the seller's reserve, so perhaps more likely that the buyer backed out...particularly now that the advert declares faults not previously listed.

Nigw - of course you are right - I don't know and yes the now disclosed fault might explain it. Still my only point, which wasn't very well expressed, was that the best bid must been pretty close to the parts value of the car.
