Hi all, for some reason I wasn't able to get onto this site until I turned off wifi, weird!
Pleasure doing business with you Mike! As mentioned, hope it's just a filler cap issue. The battery is good, and car was used the day before for a 40 minute drive, so unlikely to be that. Current going into the battery is also good from when I had it tested in May time.
Is odd seeing the space on our drive, but now our family car finally gets to keep dry in our car port!
All the best,
Laurence

Ah sorry Guy, I figured you were happy cruising in your GC! Hope you're enjoying Canada!
Hi Loz, no worries - GC has been in dry storage in Dorset. Probably won’t come out until next July, as we are travelling a lot to make up for covid! Glad you managed to enjoy the car for a bit anyway

Hi all,
As an update, car is still great fun, used on some good 2 hour plus round trips, so great to have a second car, but unfortunately still no sign of a job on the horizon so I do need to sell her. I have had the lights done, and it has about 5 months mot left. Never let me down. Occasional intermittent Skyhook light on the dash (it just means suspension is in sport mode even when out of Sport mode if that makes sense! Otherwise still doing brilliantly. Cat N of course. Clutch done 6k Miles ago, currently on 79,300.
Not trying to make a profit, but my wife would be far less on my case if I can make a few hundred to encourage future man maths endeavours . Motor point would off a shade over £5k but criminal to give away to those guys!
Kids will be upset, but just can't justify 2 cars and one being a V8!!
Have been to a car festival with kids seats and it's gone down very well!
Any questions send me a message and I'll pass on my number.
I did reach out to Soprano as he missed out last time but he's not been on for a month so wanted to open it up.
Many thanks,
Laurence
Hello Laurence

So sorry (and quite gutted!) to have only just picked up your message and seen the update to this thread. As you say, I’ve not been on for a month or so, work has been manic and then I was away on hols, back tomorrow. Just logged in to see what has been going on and saw this! Thanks very much for the thought, I would’ve been very keen, it feels a bit like this one is not meant to be!

Cheers

Thread update!

After two mear misses (when Guy and Laurence respecively sold) I received a message from theoldsmithy when I was away a couple of weeks back, to say he was unfortuantely having to sell the 'pass the parcel' 4200. I had messaged after my most recent near miss, to say if he was ever thinking of selling, to let me know and true to his word he did.

A trip across the fens with intent (2 trains and a taxi to 'look at' the car) meant yesterday was only going to end one way. After tiptoeing back down the A11 to Cambridge in torrential rain, I now have the 4200 sat on my drive.

theoldsmithy was an absolute gent and of course I feel for him, needing to sell so soon after buying in November last year.

Current to do list (all disclosed before sale, of course)

  • Could do with a service, hasn't done many miles but has been a while
  • CEL is back on (see above, the fuel cap seal had sorted the issue, but it seems only temporarily)
  • Skyhook light is on (but less bothered about that, it just sits in Sport all the time)
  • MOT due mid April (eek!)

Voicey, if you are reading this you are probably going to get a call re. some/all of the above at some point soon....

Aim is to use the car as often as possible, rather than (like my GT), have it sat in the garage not getting as much use as it should. A lovely chat with Dicky earlier this week regarding that latter issue had him convince me to keep the GT anyway, at least for the time being - not sure how good a business model that is for Dicky convincing me not to sell!

Well Done and maybe time for a carbon canister change but I'd try an Italian De Coke first.

Still familisrising myself with these cars after 6 years or so. I just did the carbon can; it was changed soon after I bought her. I know folk like to ignore them but I was quite surprised by the weight difference with both to hand…! Disconnecting the plumbing and the stink of fuel is the clue…!

Wow, it feels weird seeing such an intrinsically great car going thru owners so regularly, especially when the GC has not even been on the road meantime!

Enjoy the car @soprano

The car was garaged during my ownership without access to electricity (@Lozzingers will tell you how dodgy it looked, buying a car from a bloke at a bunch of garages, having already paid lol).

I therefore disconnected the battery every time after use (think I only did 1k miles in total??) and on every 5th or so occasion, that light randomly came on. I wouldn't worry about it and at least you can console yourself that I'm the only one who lost a shed load on it! Besides, as I say, it's bloody brilliant car.

Let me know if you want to sell.. Usual pass the parcel rules apply

PS I do think that sky hook worked as I used to take it out of sport when I hit the m5 it was defo a softer ride

That's really helpful info - thanks Guy. I've probably got a 150ish mile journey planned this weekend so I can have a proper play. So far the skyhook light has been on permanently. I will give it a go turning sport on/off to see if it makes any difference to the ride. Not worried about the light being on, just want to check if the skyhook is working/working properly. I tend to drive in Sport anyway, so no big deal for me.

The CEL has mostly been on. It did go off for one day, but came back on the next. I'm hoping that isn't anything too major as the car drives perfectly normally whether it is on or off.

Since you sold it @Lozzingers sorted the headlights out and @theoldsmithy had the headlining done - so I'm sure it is looking a bit tidier than it did. On cosmetic stuff, in a perfect world I would have the buttons done and the scuff on the front bumper/wheel arch sorted, but I am going to see how much pain is coming in April before I think about that!

The light I am referring to was like a hook, as if the car was on a tow hook, if that makes sense. No other lights came on for me. A battery disconnect in the boot for over 30 mins might help?
