Steps to cure aggressive content

Been reading the thoughts with interest before posting anything.

I think there are two different issues here; abusive and/or unacceptable comments and 'off topic' threads. On the first, the cooler idea is a good one and will hopefully have the right impact on those that find themselves there. If it persists however then a ban is the only answer. On the second, I regularly skip over threads that either I'm just not interested in or where I've no desire to read opinions on things where I can make up my own mind. It would be useful if there was an 'ignore' button for a thread so that it didn't keep appearing in the Unread section. Otherwise I'm happy to exercise my own ignore and not read them. Alternatively, a whole separate area in the Lounge for anything that isn't car or Maserati related so you know what you're likely to be getting.

I enjoy looking at the forum on the whole and have been highly amused by some of the comments on here. I've also learned a lot about my cars and Maserati in general and have met some great people and done some fantastic things that I wouldn't have been able to do if I wasn't a member. I'm not a member of any other forums so can't comment but generally this place has just about the right balance of car and non car related stuff but the action being taken should improve the few downsides.

Matt, good on you for taking some sensible and proportionate action. Like others I think the cooler is a good idea.

Another forum I was on had an area specifically for off-topic and less moderated stuff. You don’t say that you would moderate the off-topic stuff differently but I guess it would be tempting. In the other forum, it led to the off-topic area becoming a breeding ground for a lot of bad feeling that spread into the main forum.

I for one will try to post more Maserati related topics.

Hi All

I've been around a reasonable while now. In fact, I think I might be coming up to a decade!

The forum has changed in that time, that's mainly because the 3200, 4200, Gransport and GranTurismo are all ten years older and much has taken their place.

Main Complaints
  1. POOR BEHAVIOUR
  2. OFF TOPIC THREADS

POOR BEHAVIOUR
It's simple. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't say it.

OFF TOPIC THREADS
Simple. Start your own thread!
This is an open forum.
If you don't like what's being discussed, change the topic by starting your own.

I like that everything is jumbled together on the new stuff page on my phone. It means I get to look at everything new; Maserati, car and which wellies I should wear in Surrey.
4x4 ones obviously. Don't need a thread for that.

That is how I navigate the forum by using what’s new tab. Never gone into the separate categories so for me it doesn’t matter where the threads sit.

For me the diverse conversations on here is what makes the forum special and really works. If I don’t like the topic I just don’t get involved which is stuff like politics, brexit, etc as can usually go sour very quickly. I think dealing the the abusive members and comments is the right thing to do as I have been amazed that some of the contents has never been dealt with over the last few years. I am all for banter but when it becomes personal and offensive then it should be stamped out.

The mods shouldn’t waste time changing a load of stuff just deal with the issues when the happen quickly …The cooler is a good start.

Again all interesting comments and for me having found the forum by accident on a weekend after buying what was the cheapest 4200 at the time 12 years ago on a August bank holiday I've been here ever since and love the variety and nice banter too.
Problem with bad behaviour is a certain individual will say it to your face as I've seen it in person.
As a group of people from many backgrounds and professions between us we have a lot of knowledge and life experiences I feel this makes the forum very valuable.
It's so easy when walking in the street to say hello to people as you pass and smile.
Peace and Love to you all.
If you're not careful I might post a picture of my new trousers ;)

You can “watch” or “unwatch” but I don’t think you can “hide / ignore”
I actually don’t know what Unwatch does, there is no documentation in the Help section on this that I could find. Anyone knows what it does?

If you watch a thread and set notifications to on in preferences it’ll let you know every time that thread gets a reply.

If you comment on a thread, if you haven’t changed the settings, it notifies you when there is a reply. Again depending on your settings, this might be an email (I’ve turned those off) or just a notification on the page. If you unwatch you don’t get the notification. You can also watch specific members to follow their posts.

A 'Thread' ignore system would be great rather than just the individual
Agreed, Peter. The mods have looked at it but it's not possible yet. There are some limitations to the forum software. Matt is constantly bombarding the platform devs with good roadmap ideas, and this is one of them.
