Sport button

Hello - i'm in process of buying a used GT. i am interested in either the S or Sport model. However, i'm very confused over the transmission available. What i really want to make sure is that i have the sport button which opens up the valves on the exhaust to get that V8 roar. Is this button on all models? In terms of transmission there seems to be auto (but does this have any form of manual mode), auto with mc shift software (what does this mean?) and then mc shift (which i presume is the sequential semi auto dual clutch gearbox).

In terms of the models which has the sport button which increases the exhaust note - is it simply a case of looking at the models with the 2x oval exhausts rather than the 4x round exhausts???

Please can someone clarify?

Many thanks

The GT Sport is the model that replaces the GT S.....The Sport 2nd hand is still around 85k where as a good S can be had for 49k.....You can have full Auto (This still has steering wheel paddle for changes as well) or MC Shift which as you say is a sequential semi auto (this is not a duel clutch system but single) .......I'm sure owners will let you know but I thought both models had the sport button........The 4 exhaust is the Auto and the duel is the MC shift.

The fully auto car with sport button pressed gives you the noise at 3000rpm and above. The mc shift gives it all the way through the range with sport mode on. Regards the gearboxes; auto is an auto but can be operated manually by paddles, the mc shift is a single clutch manual gearbox operated by paddles with an electronic clutch and no clutch pedal. Andy's correct on the exhausts.

The full sport pack came in at the 61 plate as an option. Maranello have just sold one at 68k.

Lovely car and I was drooling!

thanks all. yes very confusing. was looking at 70-80k mark. although have seen a couple of nice ones around 60k!!
i like the styling on front of new sport model which is same as stradale front.

i test drove mc shift but found manual mode terrible. also found mc shift in manual found terrible when i first got in the car but it was fine when warmed up.

the auto sport (2013 model) was lovely as auto mode was fine but gave option of using manual mode.

i also looked at an older gt s auto model (2010) with 4 exhausts but the sport system did not seem to change the sound like it does with the 2013 auto sport model. however it seems from what you say you get the engine roar on the auto s when you exceed 3000 revs? so do people think you need sound from sport button all through the range or is over 3000 revs enough / still good??

also is living with mc shift a pain?

thanks

For not far off 80k you can pick up a new one I reckon with the must have options. When I was hunting for one, nearly new prices at dealers were more than what you can bargain them down on a new one. Without being insulting, bid them low.

Welcome back. Remember that lot's of opinions here are very personal. For me the auto works fine - it's a limo when you want and a reasonable push on car in sport manual on dry, quiet roads. I don't like the MC single clutch gearbox but a few people will be along to tell you the opposite. Drive both and decide - the car is for you not any of us!

As for the exhaust, again what do you want? I like the 3000 revs floor on mine as I can cruise the motorway in sport without the drone and I like the noise of the flaps closing when I change up. Again no wrong answer.

As for the nose, personally I like the old GTS nose and the Stradale nose but I do not like the new GT Sport nose as it looks very different to me and over styled where it flips up at the bottom.

Finally on price, if you do not want high spec then look at a discounted factory order with £85k as a target price.

A personal opinion, mine is a GTS MC shift (two ovals) and I dislike the auto with passion, its jumpy and does not change when I want, I was also told it wears the clutch quicker. I always turn auto off and use the paddle shifters and press sport when I want the noise. I have 2 paddle shift cars and had a few before and find the paddle shift mode perfectly fine and a nice easy change.

The MC shift only comes on with the sport button pressed, when the gearbox is warm (there is an indicator on the dashboard) at 80% of throttle and when the change indicator is in the orange sectors (i think may be corrected). It make the shift much quicker and more aggresive.

Its tough to use the MC shift mode as by the time you have got there you are illegal on public roads, its great for first gear, motorway slip roads and the track mind. You live with the manual paddle shift not MC shift and i could drive it all day every day.

Again personally, I love the sound of the sport button on all through the range, which is why I went for the GTS MC.

All Masers are fantastic in my opinion as its how they make you feel, and as bigbob said get the one you love

Good Luck

Hi T2DAV, welcome. I agree with everything FCZ360 says but just clarify that when he refers to auto being rubbish I THINK he means auto mode in the MC. And it is, it's bloody awful. The auto gear box (4 tail pipes) is very good as per BigBob's note. I live very happily with the MC and have no regrets choosing it over the auto (I tried both). You mention that the MC was pretty hard work when cold - always press the throttle to the floor at least twice before starting. Somehow it irons out the low-speed cold-car jerkiness.

Happy hunting! Let us know how you get on and ask anything you like.

Really? Does this actually work? My understanding of electronics is limited but surely before you turn on the ignition the throttle pedal is just a potentiometer with no current passing through it. Before it has a current it doesn't 'know' whether you're flooring it or not, it's inanimate.

Or, do you think there is some mechanic resistance in the pedal which moving it before starting smoothes out?

Well... Conventional wisdom has it that it does work and my experience concurs. I first heard it from the service guy at my local MD. He also told me that they can't actually work out why it makes a difference!
