Well put mate and a point to bear in mind..!!

While I can see the point, it's not like the forum rules are exactly onerous or anyone has a gun to your head to make you register.
The data and reality of members is a part of what gives the forum value to the *sponsors*, without whom I strongly doubt it would exist. Unless Conaero would really carry on running it, paying for the bandwidth, the hardware, the expertise and putting in the time and effort to keep it running.

We're all grown ups. If you don't like what happens to personal data, you're free to make a decision and leave. The DPA makes provision that you can then ask for all data relating to you to be removed.

Personally I am happy to pay the price.

I agree with that too, we members are here for valid reasons and I for one have found the forum to be invaluable, not just for the help, but for the good friendship of virtually everyone. But we all have still to bear in mind that the forum is public and so it should stay, for the benefit of new members who are looking for the best of Maserati. It's the fact that it is public and can attract some undersirable elements, that we still have to bear in mind what we are saying about things that may concern privacy and potential movement. If we all take a degree of care, we should not fall foul of any nutters that drop in and may want to cause a member, or the forum, any trouble..!!

Basically some grown ups, have not grown up, and their are lot out there reading the forums. When we register we select if you want your personal data published. If you select No, you don't expect this not to be adhered to and then later not have to not be a part of the forum to stop the damage that has already been done.

Shut the door after the horse has bolted? Not very clever!

The point is that this data is being published and has more value to others in this day and age, than to just the sponsors of this forum.

It is like someone with their name stuck on their head brazenly showing everyone in the pub, including the people they don't even know that they have expensive item i.e. Rolex etc and then wondering why they are then a target outside the pub. I am not into expensive watches etc, but each to their own.

Some like to shout, others don't!

I agree with that logic..!! Sometimes we tend to forget that everyone can see this forum (me included) and we can mention things we maybe should not. I in no way see this as intential by anyone, simple slips of the tongue, information that should be done by PM and not public etc..!! I try and see the best in people and forget sometimes that it's not just us that can view the forum, it's a shame but fact that some may try to take advantage..!!
I still love this forum and will do all I can to make sure it stays as it is and open to all..!!
