Spare key remote not working

I tried the spare key for my GS recently and it wouldn't work (i.e. Would not remote lock/unlock the car).

Assuming it was the batteries I changed them today but still nothing.

I'm pretty sure that I got the polarity right on the batteries (or at least put the new ones in as the old ones had been) so does anyone know if there's some kind of reset procedure?

Probably is the battery mate, unless the remote isnt tuned into your car.. which is highly unlikely

I've checked the polarity of the new batteries and they are in the same way around as the ones in the working key...

If the remote button has been operated more than about 16 times out of range of the car, it won't accept the rolling code. You can fix that by operating the button twice rapidly near the car.

Failing that there is a coding that works on the 4200:
Repeatedly lock and unlock the car on the remote until the alarm LED starts flashing multiple times.
Then use *both* keys to remotely activate the locks. That adds them both.

On the 4200, to add a key for the remote does not require an SD2/3. Adding it to the CODE system so it starts the car, however, does.

Does your spare key start the car?

Thanks Catman.

I haven't tried to start the car with it. That sounds like the next thing to check.

I tried pressing the button twice in quick succession near the car - as I'd seen this mentioned on another thread - but that didn't achieve anything.

After Sunday evening's adventures I forgot to post an update on this...

Tried the reprogramming procedure and it worked just as suggested.

It's completely counter intuitive - your brain tells you it shouldn't work and once the working key stopped working there was a moment of mild panic, but both keys then reconnected straight away, so I'm now pleased to have two working keys.

Thanks for reassuring me on this one Cman.

De nada. It seems sort of silly, but when you think about it, it's as good as anything else, I guess :)

Mine was doing same thing so I tried this solution. It didn't work. When you say alarm flashing multiple times, mine flashes constantly after first push of the good remote. Is this OK? To unlock the car after doing this I can do it with the good remote but the non working one does nothing. Do I perhaps need a new spare remote, I'm told by dealer these are circa £150.

Black key or grey, Phil?

The LED will flash when you arm / lock the car but will flash far more frequently when it's in learning mode. Take 12 ish repeats of lock and unlock. You can't miss it.
