"So why didn't you buy a Ferrari?"

I think it depends upon which ferrari.

Enzo and Paul both jumped the Maserati ship into 575/550's which are lovely cars and don't carry the 'Footballer' tag.

Anything classic, especially a Dino, Daytona or Testarrosa are owned by more enthusiasts.

The only modern Ferrari that interested me is a 430. It has the same bloodline as the GranSport and are just old enough now. Gunmetal grey, coupe with tan or red hide.

The 430 certainly is a classy car - if I had £100k + knocking around though I think it would be going on a "few" cars.

I have had two Ferraris in the past and loved them both, so if any one asks me why I have my gts mc and not a Ferrari you have my answer. I must say that the general public are more likely to let me out of junctions than they did when I had the Ferraris. The mass is more of a gentlemans car and my wife says its sex on wheels when I have the hooligan button depressed and in full charging mode. Can`t argue with that?

...... bacause at thje time I couldn't stretch to a 550! Also I really needed 4 seats and had fallen for my 3200.
My car has converted several ardent Ferrari fans to our camp, including one you fellow call Enzo.

That said I do still have an itch for thr 456 GT with manual box. Seems I have missed the boat with the 550, but I might actually prefer the prettier lines of the 456. Proper pop-up headlights and that Daytona-esque rear end.

The 456 is very expensive to run, so be warned. But lovely. From memory, when I used one as a daily car for a couple of years (about a decade ago now), it cost about £4 per mile over my 20,000 miles. Not including fuel, tax or insurance. But a fair amount of that was depreciation, of which there is now none.

Also thoroughly enjoyed the 355's I had, and the 360. I've not had anything more modern, as since having children it's been Masers and Range Rovers for me.

If you have petrol in your veins, and the available funds (even if only temporarily), you should give a Ferrari a try. Like Maserati, the brand is so steeped in history, they are all special, even the poor/ugly/unreliable ones.

Your right Dave the first time I had the opportunity to drive an E Type Jag I was so excited and then disappointed straight away.
Problem is they are now old cars but a good old Escort is still good old fun whether it has Crossflow, Pinto, Lotus or BDA in it well tuned with some side suckers on will always put a smile on your face.

I remember doing a sprint at West Malling airfield back in the mid 80s. We used it as a shakedown for a tarmac spec 150 bhp mk1 Escort we'd just built. It must have been Ferrari owners club day out, as there were numerous 308s etc. If you don't (didn't) know the circuit, it was tight and twisty, so suited the Escort well. We ended up beating them by over a second a lap. Short lived, but it made my day. Somewhere like Snetterton and it would have been a very different story. North Weald would have been interesting for comparison.

Ah West Malling, I used to calibrate our VASCAR systems on there and see what the latest offering from Ford Vauxhall and Volvo were capable of.

Flash calls around that area were always a scene of devastation for the bunny population at night, they seemed to be transfixed by the flashing lights and not much you can do at high speeds to miss them...not very Easter friendly post from me!

I nearly dropped a load of money into 360 years ago, but it wasn't a practical daily car which is what I needed and still need so I kept the 911 and looked at 355s but couldnt afford the next step. The GTS makes me smile every day, people let you out, they ask what it is but also love the sound and don't look envious but want to listen to the exhaust and chat, also a ferrari does feel like a posh persons car and Im definitely not that :) For me the Maserati is the best decision ever made, just had her serviced and brakes discs all round for 1700 quid and that should be it for another 12 months where Ill just get the oil replaced. The community on here and in general is awesome, if I had some more money Id buy the black QP with black wheels that is for sale down the road as second car... :)

They looked good but it was all rubbish Ben, just like E type Jags...a good MkI Ford Escort RS would make them look silly!

A lot of the old stuff was cr4p to drive but these days are solid gold investments.
