Is the 4200/GS particularly fussy about its oil?

Just curious as I have spoken to people who think that putting the 'wrong' oil in is akin to putting diesel into a petrol car, and would, if forced to choose, drive with little or no oil rather than use an unrecommended oil as a temporary measure.

I would only use their recommended oil...the Shell one

Of course, but this is now a 12yr old engine, the oil was deemed the optimum at the time, ergo best suited so as its still available will keep using same
