Evening all,

Quick one- recently went to 'shop for parts' in Bradford- the closest place to me in Leeds to purchase Selenia oil for the 3200gt. Historically, I've bought 'Selenia 10w40 Racing Oil' when a top up is required, but they didn't appear to stock this anymore and suggested the only Selenia 10w40 they had these days was called 'Selenia 20k'. I purchased it on the premise that id do my research to establish if it was suitable, but as yet haven't found anything to confirm either way.

Anyone have any idea? Anxious to use this without being certain it is suitable, hence me enquiring!

Any thoughts/advice welcomed, many thanks.

Ok I think you have got muddled here. Selenia 10w40 has always known as been Selenia 20k

Selenia Racing is a different viscosity, 10w60 from memory.

Don't worry Ben it'll be just fine....Personally I always use Castrol Edge in my 3200GT!

So 20k is good! That's sufficient confirmation for me. The previous Selenia was definitely 10w40, and I'm 98% certain it was called racing- although since looking for it again since I haven't been able to find it, and the empty bottle left with the bin men yesterday sadly so I can't confirm.

As always, thanks for the prompt response :)

Hi
A 3200 uses Selenia Racing is 10 / 60 and this should not be confused with Selenia 20K which is 10/40 and a different used on later Alfa Romeo's.

Yes, that is correct 10w40 it should not be used in an engine that requires 10w60

No 20k is not to be used, here is the Selenia Racing 10w60 oil spec:

You can use any 10W60, Selenia is preferred but much harder to get these days. I use Selenia for service but Mobil 10W60 for top up

Hello Everyone,

First of all thank you for this Forum. I would say one of the best.
And now I have the opportunity to add some information.

My Maserati Dealer here in Germany uses Shell Helix Ultra racing 10 W 60 (see picture).

During the last servicing of my 3200 GT, they gave me a bottle to be able to fill up in case of.

Hi Lasco

There is some debate between owners over whether to use the original spec Selenia W40 Racing or whether it's OK to use high quality alternatives. Some like to stay as original as possible, other feel that engine oil technology has moved on in the 15 years that these cars have been around.

Hope that helps

There has been much debate on oils on here. Selenia 10-60 was prescribed for the 3200 originally, but at some point in it's past it was downgraded a little, maybe due to cost. A good quality 10w-60 Racing Oil should do the job very well, it has to be 60 though for the turbo heat, so don't drop lower at any time, or they could blow..!!

Lol, 10w40 is....10w40 and not 10w60 . The specs are the spec, and your turbos whant grad 60, not 40 .
But try it if you whant save money for 10k miles... and replace your turbos after ;-)
