Second Car Advice / Suggestions

I am loving the GTS - but 'nipping' down the road in it to get provisions or a takeaway isn't too easy considering where I live or my drive etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a second car - not too expensive , maybe even new if there are any good deals about. I fancied a smart car - there are great offers on at the moment.. but my wife says they aren't safe enough :/

I was thinking left field like an elise.. but they are surprisingly expensive considering their age and creature comforts etc. Any not exactly a big boot :)

How about an Abarth 595? Practical, you don't see too many, reliable, they sound great & are super fast.
I'm thinking of getting one as a run around in the next couple of months

Yeah definitely an Abarth either 500 or Punto, they are great little things or Alfa mito ?

Can't be driving a smart car! You need some more Italian style :D

Good point. I did briefly look at the Mito Just now.
Wish that black Abarth was closer.
The wife will think I have lost the plot

For the summer, how about a Boxster? Cheap as chips, and two boots for the shopping.

I agree...That did cross my mind too. And the wife would like the use of it probably. I used to have a Boxster S and loved it.

Just would feel kinda odd driving one of those and having a beast at home.

The Abarth is probably understated enough to make sense.

Feel like a school boy racer in an Abarth wouldn't you? I was in Staines once and all the 18 yr old girls and boys had them! Actually some of them had Bentleys as well .....

If you only need 2 seats you can't go wrong with a MX5 £1500-£15,000 bulletproof reliability and real fun to drive .

If you've never driven one , pick a sunny day, get the roof off and take a proper test drive, its not all about power, they go where you point them and have a huge grin factor

I've had 3 and wouldn't rule out another , the kids loved fast roundabouts when they were little, do it again dad
Don't tell the wife though, we never went above 50 and they were safe at all times

This!

A nice 2.7 or 3.2 Boxster can be had from £7-15k and a guarantee will bring a smile to your face. Despite what many say they have a lot of character, a now extinct N/A flat 6 engine that revs and revs and get better the harder you drive them. They are also super practical if you only need 2 seats with tons of boot space and jump in and drive daily driver practicality and comfort.

From your above post I am guessing you already know this and it would provide a nice contract to the Italian in the garage!

We have a Twin-Air Mito as a second car. Crazy engine but fun for the short trips to the shops.

Me too ... bought it as it was cheap to insure for my kids and had a great safety rating... though they still don't drive... other than the slightly "bouncy" suspension I love it ... starting to get the idea behind the DNA switch now too... Fuel consumption not exactly as promised but always nice to get a road tax bill for £0 ..
