Route recommendations please, for UK to Modena

Good ideas, thanks! But I’ve got a few reasons for picking France for most of the trip down, then Switzerland on the way back.

I speak some French, which helps massively. Plus from my basic experience of both countries I found French roads top notch and German autobahns a bit bland. Also the food! French restaurants compared to German - no contest!

But Austria is lovely, I could see myself trying an alternative route another time that maybe took in somewhere memorable like the Black Forest.

I've done both the French and German routes. For the French, heading all the way down to Nice and then East into Italy is cool. Actually just holidayed in Antibes and did breakfast in France, Lunch in Monaco and dinner in Italy!

The German route we took down to Mulhouse through the Black Forest has superb roads and the scenery was stunning.

Spoilt for choice really - I'm checking out a little jaunt via Route Napoleon and returning via Routes des Grande Alps for next June - but early May and it can be touch and go if some of the higher passes are open
