Thinking of getting my dad one as he gets older. Has anyone got one, are they any good or more of a fad? Thanks in advance...

I watched a neighbours one, it seems to trundle around when the grass doesn't need cut, and can't really see what happens to the cuttings. More of a fad in my opinion.

Can't see why it can't navigate properly. My robomops do that. After an initial mapping, round the edges then back and forth.
I like them so much I bought another one at the weekend. (Non geeks stop reading here)

(After and on line vote the one on the ground floor is called Annaclean Skywalker. The one on the first floor is called Obi Wan Cleanobi. Wondering if I should get one for the top floor and what to call that)

Non geeks, I did warn you!

If you have a manicured garden they are fine... but if you have a larger rougher plot with lots of random obstacles (dog toys and or poop, fallen branches, digits etc etc) you may find it struggling.

Our ride-on supplier demonstrated one, but the Ram attacked it!!!

Thanks for the replies. Its for the place in Italy, so the grass is p*ss poor anyway, not smooth at all. The area also has several olive trees, so maybe it would struggle. That plus a 77 year old trying to set it up haha

Husqvarna are the market leader and the best in our view, we sell them and they are now starting to cater for huge areas.

Short version is that they are good but need to be setup properly, and there are some limitations such as mowing over the very edge of the lawn/flower bed.

If you are in the southeast I can have someone call you if you like :) It's best to buy from a local dealer and have it installed/setup.

Two types, one uses a boundary wire, the other uses RTK/GPS (for the bigger pricier ones)

Queen Margretha of Denmark has battalions of Husqvana mowers at her palaces. Some friends of mine have a robotic mower and call it Robochop.

I was speaking to someone about these at the weekend.

Yes, setup is a pain and the reason why they seem to be cutting grass that does not need it is they operate daily/bi daily and take a little off so the bin can take all the trimmings without the need to change.

So, it would appear, you cut the lions share of the grass to level it, then the bots take over and keep it there.

Make sense I suppose.

Thanks for the responses.. Im in the NE but the idea would be to take this out to Italy. Trouble is the house can be unattended for a few months at a time so from what Ive read and people have said on here its probably not the ideal set up for one
