Hi guys,
Just wondered if it would be possible to retrofit 4200 paddles to 3200 GTA and connect into gearbox for paddle shift? It can be done as retrofit on my 2003 Range Rover Vogue so thought "why not"
Cheers

My RR isn't a CC either mate. Only need to send a signal to gearbox to say up or down as when pushing lever forwards or backwards. Paddles are just the switch up or down in my eyes. May not be doable cos of literally moving a notch forwards etc to change gear but that's what I'm trying to ascertain.
Just a thought as I would like the ability to manual shift on the steering wheel.
Neil.

Almichie actually you could.....Quaife make aftermarket gearboxes with F1 shifts, with a bit of faffing you could get one to fit the 3200 Maser motor, anythings possible

3200 GTA gearbox is manually engaged into the different gear positions and not electronically changed. So even if you could get the paddles on the steering wheel which i am sure you could, the gearbox is not controlled electrically. To be honest the gear lever allows you to drive the box up and down better than any paddle system, so not sure what you would gain, even if it could be done? Celebrate you have an auto box that can be controlled just like a new paddle system without any of the complexity and cost.

That's what I was wondering whether mechanical or electronic shift. Suppose the answer is no then?

Probably a quite simple mod to fit a motorbike shift kit to the auto lever? The paddles could be easily wired as the actuator switches. Combine this with an auto box shift kit if one is available to get more aggressive shifts and a more reliable box. It would need some imagination to work around P,R,N,D but certainly doable.
Hmm there's a thought - I might even have a go myself now the seed is sown...

Who makes the auto box for Maserati?
Just because you have a mechanical shift lever to select the gears, doesn't mean that it is not electrically controlled.
Compushift is an auto gearbox controller that can be used with lots of different auto gearboxes.
For example we are familiar with the ZF auto gearboxes fitted to 90's Jags and Range Rovers...they can be controlled with Compushift, and paddle shift controlled, and have a mechanical lever shifter, but electronically controlled, most auto boxes with a 4th speed lock up top gear are.

If you do please keep me informed. I think it would be a "nice to have"

Thanks Mike,
As you can probably guess I'm not very techie when it comes to such things. I was quite hoping someone would take it up who has more idea and then perhaps it can be achieved.

The auto boxes are BTR - a fairly unusual Australian chunk. They derive from a Ford Falcon down there I think? I'm pretty sure it's all electric but need to do some more digging.

The controller has a BTR label, so figures.
Never heard of them.
Technically it's possible, it's knowing what are the control signals are etc for a new controller.
Unless it's plug and play with a well known box, it's unlikely to happen unless you have lots of time for the project.

It is a BTR box. The electronics can shift down so there are electrical controls. however the only way it goes up through gears is if the mechanical control is moved or the auto is in drive. so if it was locked in D position and then you fired the down shift it might work-ish. I suspect it might be a bit clunky if you did get the electrics under control. Still not sure it would be an improvement!
