Retrofit parking sensors- 4200

Ive found the central (main) connector block for (optional) rear parking sensors in the boot of my facelift 4200..
Can I use this connector to simply plug in sensors ( if i had them fitted ), or does it require other sensors, like, I dunno, something to tell it it's in reverse, and a speaker for audible warning ?

If so, can anyone recommend a decent aftermarket system that is cost effective, and compatible with my 4200 ?( one that doesnt bug out every other time you select reverse in other words !! )

If its easy, Id seriously consider this 'modern driver aid'.;)

cheers

I vaguely recall reading an old thread about retrofitting BMW or Alfa sensors and they were compatible with the connector block that you found... So essentially plug and play.

Sadly my car had already been fettled with when I got it. It had a redundant "cobra" system which was no longer working. I have removed all the wiring, buzzer, ECU etc. for it and I plan to have the sensors removed and skimmed over when I get round to sorting the paint out

I would be interested in a small reversing camera perhaps mounted on the number plate surround that could either link to my phone or perhaps a screen on the rearview instead but not sure if the tech exists yet for the camera itself not to look awkward when mounted

I'm not sure if they are just plug and play. The sensors are compatible, but there's also a control box.....

That may be plug and play as well, mind

I need to try and find a 'brain' in the loom somewhere then, probably..
Any clues where Maserati stash these, at all..?

I'll have another search for threads....

I think from memory it is inside the rear quarter panel with the relays and fuses etc

Re: reversing camera - the cheapo ones are a waste of money imo. Anything decent will be just over 1/2" cube.
Central mounting is ideal and for a 4200 there's a nice spot on the boot plate.
Just a touch of widening at the base is needed to get a snug fit with little of the body of the camera visible.
Feeding the camera cable through the boot lid, harness grommet, etc is a pita. Worth it though.

Edit: just remembered that I cut the camera cable connector off to get it through the harness grommet.
It was tight and decided not to risk damage to the wiring - a known weak spot.
Soldering, heat shrink and taping-up was easy enough.

And a vacant connector block in the same location...?

Diversity box relates to radio reception - it detects which antenna provides the stronger signal and switches accordingly.

Ho good is the Maser system...?
I hate this type of tech if it isnt effing bombproof TBH !! :D

move nwver had any issues, I think all reversing sensors struggle in the wet though.

bit of your Navtrak sitting beside your speaker there!

Thanks for the informafion... This is roughly what I had in mind but I have not yet found a suitable camera

What did you have on the other end showing the image?

Any of the branded cameras are good. I like Kenwood and installed a CMOS-320 which displays on a replacement head unit. The NIT & screen are in the boot.

There are a couple of after market invisible or near invisible parking sensor systems available.

1. Has a metal strip that is fitted inside the rear bumper. Discussed in a previous thread on here.

2. Uses sensors in a rear number plate frame.

If you go down the reverse camera route you can get a camera which replaces one of the number plate lights so its almost invisable and no cutting of the bumper or body is required.

I can see why cameras are preferred from a reliability POV.
Maserati pricing is eyewatering..
Im guessing stand alone might be the easier option...

I remember reading that, which is what prompted me to investigate further. I recently deleted the link though...

Plenty of them on ebay. They can get a bit fussy if they're too close to a metallic cross member. I recall I had one in the Alfa GT (I think) It was OK
