Not sure if there is any love for 90s 5-Cylinder Audis on here?
Here is a picture I just found taken in around 1994 of five Audis we had in the family at the time. All purchased new or ex-demo. When new car models come out today there is often lot of grumbling and discussion around whether it is an improvement on its predecessor. It was no different then. The Crystal Silver B3 Coupe was kept by my uncle until he passed away as Audi could never convince him they had anything better to offer. It was sold a few years ago with only 27K miles on the clock. The B4 80 Saloon replaced a B3 90 2.2E saloon. We all much preferred the B3. The B3 90 2.3E in grey replaced a B3 90 2.3E in Maraschino Red, both great cars. The Panther Black B3 90 20V I personally drove 96K miles in and was quite simply a superb car in every respect. It was replaced in 1995 with an Audi A4 1.8T Sport which never hit the same spot. I missed my 5-Cylinder 20V. Still do. The B3 2.3E Coupe quattro in Pearlescent White was glorious to look at and listen to. It was replaced with a 2.6E V6 Cabriolet in Merlin Purple which again did not connect with the driver in quite the same way. Neither did an S4 V8 Cabriolet that followed (though a 3.0V6 was a lovely thing). However now driving a selection of B4 and B5 (and C4) Audis again as we prepare them for sale, it is clear that Audi were still at the top of their game then and certainly against most contemporaries. They were and are great cars which are getting harder to find. The grin factor is equally difficult to discover in more modern machinery (aside from, say, a Maserati or Aston Martin
