Renewed Software

My pre face lift 4200 (2004 MY) did not have a hill hold system...was never an issue for me. But the gear change in sport was as aggressive as my current GS.

Both my face lift 4200 and GS had/have the HH but only the GS did the blip on down shifts.

Is any one able to say why the ECUs can be reverted?

Not sure what my 4200 has. it's a MY03 car, but does appear to have the HH.

However, I haven't noticed a blip on the downshifts.

I guess the only way to find out if to get it plugged into some diagnostics.

With your exhaust set up Mark there is no way you could miss the blip on down shifts.

I spoke to Graypaul this morning who state that this was an engine software upgrade and nothing to do with the gearbox. They're 100 miles from me (my nearest Maserati dealer) so I need to get it on an SD2 reader at a local Indi to determine what software is loaded.

Campaign 98 is certainly effectively a TCU (gearbox) software mod. The TCU receives a load of commands from the ECU, depending on the engine mode selected (Auto/Sport/Ice/Cruise), so it's entirely possible that there's a change to the ECU too. I'm fairly sure there was a redline reduction with the #98 campaign software too.

Simple question - does your car blip the throttle on downshifts? It's very noticeable if it does.

No blip

Is this the blip you speak of?

Fast forward to minute 4 if you don't want to watch the whole thing

Post number 23 on the ML life thread confirms campaign 98's function. There is also a post about Maseratis customer database being out of date and owners not getting campaign notification letters.

As somebody else said there was a red line rev limit change. There are 3 levels i am aware of. The original classico software was 7250 rpm. The campaign 98 software reduced this to 7000 rpm. Late facelift models and the GS models software is 7500 rpm.

Please would you supply a link to Post 23? I've spent an hour so far and not found it!

I can't either!
Interesting reading through old threads another way to determine what you have:

For your information - it is easy to determine whether you have the original software or not (this is for a 2002/2003 car):
When sitting in gear 1 with the engine running, pull up on the left paddle. This activates the hill-hold feature. If it beeps and the display flashes, you have the original software . If not, then you have the upgrade.

Thought I'd "solved" it for you in post #4 by saying exactly that.

So you did thanks as I'm not blind.......................but nor am I deaf. So when the Official Maserati supplying Dealer who has serviced this particular car for 12 years tells me, a 'Newbie', that Campaign 98 was an Engine Software Upgrade, then I think twice about it until I confirm one way or the other.

You might want to get used to dealers not knowing as much as the collective forum :)

And that's why I joined various forums, to take advantage of the combined wealth of knowledge available. But you seriously cannot expect me to disbelieve the Service Department Head of a Maserati Franchisor whose name appears on every invoice issued in respect of the car since 2004???
