interesting day at Aston - customer dropped his car off to have front plate removed, spoke to the guy and said a lot of supercar owners are doing this ?

front plate removal petition

will clean up the front on our cars but the front facing average cameras and London congestion camera will have an issue - so not sure this will become legal but worth ago ???

oh and no I'm not swapping the car, have a few other cars I need to try before the Aston :)

There's already a government response there saying a big fat "no!"
Although a bit of aesthetic improvement is nice, I think it's a big help to have plates on both the front and back to identify the numpties we all encounter so much of the time.

Not had one on mine for months and been past plenty of plod. I carry one in the passenger footwell and toss it into the windscreen if they look like they might be interested. No mounting place for a reg on mine.

In this day and age of smart everything, Id rather have a plastic white/yellow plate than a big brother tag detecting my every movement, speed and position. No doubt they'll come into play 10, 20 or 30 years in the future under the premise of crime reduction and road tax/insurance /MOT evasion...

If it's OK for bikes, why can't cars be rear facing only? Or change the law that bikes need forward facing too. (That'd be fun to see enforced!)

Can't do it - will leave gaping hole and pull off all the paint.
Not signed
Looks ok on a 3200 as it's symmetrical
On an Alfa it looks cr4p offset much better without

I got pulled for the small "illegal" Italian style plate on the front my old Guilia Ti a few years ago....I was threatened with 3 points!

I'm sure I read somewhere that none of those petitions have ever resulted in a law change. Given the reliance on the number plate for revenue generation, not a hope of this ever getting anywhere..

...and I'm on my third on the Elise this year as I keep breaking them :(

I broke two and punched a wee hole in the splitter. The front bumper is about £10k or something ridiculous so I had it repaired and removed the rubbish plate holder entirely. I've a velcro strip which can't be seen as the car is black and a plate at the ready in case i'm stopped but so far it's not happened.

There is no way that they will ever change the law on front plates.

I did think about an adhesive plate but there's nowhere to place it on the car that wouldn't look silly. I figured a smaller plate is just knowingly illegal and more likely to be frowned upon than no plate at all. I've no scientific basis for that whatsoever, just my opinion.

To be truthful, if someone hit someone close to me and tried to drive off, I would be grateful for what ever identification anyone could get to try and find the bu99ers, so although cars look lovely without them I think they should stay.

There are so many front number plate reading systems in place, smart motorways, car parks, speed cameras, no way will they change the law.
It does appear unfair that motorbikes escape so many though!

tell me about it, with average speed cameras all the way from inverness to stirling only the bikers can run free on the A9!

Have had my plate and mounts removed and like others carry a plate in the car, albeit illegally spaced with altered font.

Funny thing is I have had no hassle from the boys in blue so far but have lots of members of the public etc asking where is the front plate, isn't that illegal etc. Find it easier now just to say that supercars don't need front plates, they don't know any better !

Lol sounds like the same record as mine. I was hammering it up through Knightsbridge recently and saw the traffic cops coming towards so plate was promptly thrown into the front window and they didn't bat an eyelid.
