A quick recommendation for Autoshield. I just spent more than I should have with Marios and team in Chorlton, but that's more testament to their diligence and the state of my car after (it seems) being a bit sloppily looked after by previous owners...not to mention my track day shenanigans and thrashing it round Europe for a couple of weeks. I've done 9.5k in 10 months and they haven't been kind miles, mostly done around London. There was plenty to do to it, and they kept me well informed throughout the process and provided some pictures afterwards. Work done was:
Replace clutch & bearings (reading was at 96% and apparently it looked like it too)
Replace F1 pump ("throwing out oil")
Fix central locking with new solenoids
Replace broken door mirror
Fettle the boot lock
Replace spark plugs and rocker cover gasket / seals
Re-mount manifolds and replace gaskets
Fix an oil leak from the timing chain cover & replace seals
Replace oil in gearbox and engine
Fit brake discs & pads (supplied by me)
Replace oil filter, auxiliary belt and various other pieces required at a major service
Align wheels & tracking.
Marios promised me a car that I would not recognise as far as performance and transmission was concerned, and he was right. Everything feels much tighter, better coordinated and the gear-box and clutch are spot-on now. Previously, second gear was very vague at low revs until the clutch was fully engaged. Now it feels fully connected.
Just the parts from a dealer would have been more that the final bill, I think. I'm now pretty confident my Doris will survive another track day or two and another 2500mile round the twistiest mountain roads that Europe has to offer.
Oh, and for those who like this kind of thing, here's a photo of the timing chain with the cover off...
