never had one before but it was like a bomb going off, especially with the window open! luckily I was only doing about 50 or less slowing down for a roundabout..........limped home 2 miles and have a tyre repair firm out tomorrow to fit 2 new rears, just hope the wheel is ok since the bill for 2 x pir rossos is enough this week:unsure:

Hope you, the rim and your trousers are ok Greg!

Had a blow-out at something like that speed Dem in a Range Rover with air suspension. Loud bang, car jumped in the air, and then continued to drive completely normally until chunks of tyre started leaving the carcass. When I stopped there was virtually nothing left of the tyre.

that's the thing, I'm pretty ocd about checking stuff like tyres at least monthly if not weekly. both rears were in good shape and had hoped they would see me through brunty next month then get a full set and wheel refurb at the same time...........best laid plans huh.
yes I'm fine, a bit shaken, but fine. 2.5/3 miles limping home was no fun with big grins on the faces of all the drivers overtaking me who I had overtaken a couple of miles earlier......:blushed:
can't see the rim well enough to judge if it is ok but hopefully it is since spare maser wheels in the highlands are as rare as wild haggis in shooting season!

It could have been a pothole, or junk on the road mate, it happens..!! If there was enough of the casing left on you might have got away with no wheel damage, let's hope so..!!

Glad you are ok and hopefully nothing more than a tyre.
I ended up fitting a new rear on mine first day after collecting her. Something nicked the tyre wall. Looked like a knife initially but tyre fitter said more likely debris on the road but wheel unmarked.

I find it amazing how few punctures and blow-outs we have to suffer nowadays - they used to be so common, but tyre technology has clearly improved immensely. I've lost only a handful of tyres in the last say 20 years, despite driving around 40k miles per year. It seems to me that before that I had many more punctures.

agree. have had the odd slow puncture but this is the first blow out I've had for 15 years roughly, so regardless of the arguments over which one is best, it seems clear they are all better than they used to be

£370 lighter but luckily the wheel is fine, a couple of minor scrapes but need to put them in for a refurb anyway, just not sure if to do it before or after brunty.
