So this happened today. For anyone with a faulty oil pressure sender did your dial look like this (PS passenger recording)

Check your oil to be safe, but yes, that would look like a screwed sender.

Can't recall if the warning light is on the same sender, though

Will do, I was told that the difference of oil between the minimum and maximum on the dipstick was 1litre?

Sound about right?

Just so I know how much to fill up.

I believe so, but you need to measure warm, engine off, flat surface about 10 minutes after you shut down (working from memory here!)

Dry sump engine innit.

A follow up on this, whilst I wait to get booked in for a full inspection. I recently went to GVE in London for my suspension actuator to be replaced. The mechanic mentioned that there was a leak in one of the turbos. Would that cause the car to go into limp?
Though I've only used their Sales side, I wouldn't use GVE for anything at all.

Also the 3200 is a rare and fussy beast. I would be taking it to a proper 3200 specialist.

McGrath
and of course Sports Italia.

When my 3200 (2001model) went into limp mode, I tried going through the 'throttle position' ritual, setting zero, then full throttle positions. That seemed to 'fix' the problem, and hasn't done it since. Worth a try...

Oil pressure gauge flicking up and down when engine fully warm for a few seconds is something I am well used to. It will go away for a few weeks/months and then happen again. Every 5 years or so get the sender replaced, all good for a few years then it happens again.
I think I have now had 3 senders. Best to know they work in case you get a 'real' problem.
I believe Mike Roberts (Maseratished) may have a solution he is either working on or is available, but I may be wrong...

I understand that David Askew sells after market oil pressure sender's. Does anyone have experience of this aftermarket part?

Hi, the only limp mode I happened to have was a p1226 error indicating the pedal pot. It doesn't mean it s this pb for you but could be. The good thing is that you have on this forum the world's best producer of contactless pedal pot for 3200. :D
Yes David Askew provides alternative oil sensor. However your pb looks like a faulty contact inside the sensor. Someone here did manage to service it a few years ago (I copied him on mine) and it works so far. But I also bought a David askew one in case...

I have one on my 3200
I had one fitted , pressure readings were low hot, I'm not dissing them in any way as it could have been the wiring, but I've sorted the original and it's back to how it was, to my relief, I know the endfloat is good so thought I might have had an oil pump problem, it was the sender.

Good choice, always try to stay with the original parts if possible
Fiat didn't spend millions on development for nothing!

Looking back on all those years I think Fiat actually did a fairly good job with the old Maserati 3200
And when Ferrari arrived on the scene in the late 90's they made them even better!

Dave

Didn’t realise they were a Fiat company then.
