Random Alarm Behaviour 4200 / GS

It will soon be 12 months since I got my ’05 Coupé GT manual and have to admit that I’m still in the honeymoon phase.

Although there is still a list of relatively minor issues to attend to, the only real misbehaviour from the car so far has been alarm related.

The first episode was only a few weeks after getting it. After locking the car it took around 20 seconds and the alarm horn started to blare, so I went back, unlocked and re-locked and waited about 10 seconds. All OK so I walk away and then it started blaring again. After starting and idling the engine for about 30 seconds then shutting down, I locked it and waited. All good, no further trouble that day but all slightly embarrassing in the local supermarket car park.

It's subsequently kept recurring randomly until now, but it has always been in warmer temperatures (from 18+ degrees), usually after a decent length drive (1 hour+) and when the car is parked in direct sunlight, but the alarm generally only triggers a single time. Once I open and shut the door and re-lock then it seems to behave itself again. I'm always careful to ensure doors and bootlid are closed securely.

Any thoughts? Has anyone experienced something similar with their 4200 or Gransport?

The joy of Italian electrics - try holding the button on the remote for a few seconds, I understand that turns off the ultrasonic detectors.

Great tip, thanks guys, mine does exactly the same, taken to locking each door with the key to stop it, slightly embarrassing when your at a show and your alarm keeps going off!

Tbh I just leave mine unlocked most of the time especially at shows, the biggest worry for me at car shows is the outside getting damaged.
Top tip, move if your next to a VW camper at a show as these attract enthusiasts and morons en masse.
