I think they were included in the declaration of war (crimean?) because there was some doubt whether Berwick was in England or Scotland, and then left out of the peace treaty.

Only thing I know that is vaguely relevant is that giant lizard development took a bit of a hit when an asteroid crashed into the Caribbean just off the Yucatan Peninsula. But not really news - 50 million years ago? Or evolution.
