As no one is going to get it The Eyes of Salty water are the highest body of water and volcano in the world.
The Nevado Ojos del Salado are their name.
They are effectively a body of water in a volcanic crater and a volcano 6,538 meters above see level in Argentina.

In other words about as far removed from a salt flat as you could possibly get. Lol.

Good question though - although do I hear rumblings of discontent from Essex? Or is that just the bhuna I had earlier!

After the South America tip I tried the translation route. Still couldn't get it! Does this qualify for the Joey of the week award? :saifi3:

Indeed. Eyes of the salty one is every translation I get back for that, but QM is final. If insulting ;)

Ok - I wasn't sure it was/is my turn so I'll delete if it isn't

What is the most successful European Country in terms of military victories

Go on then - the French?

Are we talking an outright number or the win/loss ratio. Would think Italy (Romans) would be in with a shout.

That was quick Nav has it.
It is indeed much to Benny's disgust and a few others the frog eating, garlic crunching, surrender monkeys The French!
Despite rolling over twice in the early part of the 20th Century, and a couple of well documented ar4e whippings at Waterloo and Agincourt. The French have been highly successful militarily, choosing their battles as opposed to having them forced upon them. Famously achieving what Hitler failed to by reaching an entering Moscow under Napoleon.

The French have arguably the best military record in Europe. According to historian Niall Ferguson, of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have fought in 50, more than both Austria (47) and England (43). And they achieved an impressive overall batting average: out of a total of 168 battles fought since 387 bc, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10. Quite how we get a draw in a war is a bit beyond me!

A lot of the words used in modern warfare derive from French words, such as: army, artillery, captain, cavalry, charge, espionage, general, lieutenant, lance, marines, manoeuvre, military, mine, naval, parachute, pilot (Benny will LOVE that), platoon, regiment, soldier and trench.

There was mention of this on Q.I. a while back. As Fry put it the French had a lot of early success - but then we took the cane out of the cupboard and gave them a da*n good thrashing.

When stopping with friends there it's the one topic I stay well away from. But when De Gaulle gets mentioned it does get difficult.

An easy question for a mellow Friday afternoon - what is the Beaufort Scale used to measure?
