Quattroporte ZF gearbox noise problem

My quattroporte (2009 ZF automatic) started making strange noises thar seem to be coming from the gearbox when moving. There is no unusual noises from the engine.
Came home 30 miles last night and just as I was pulling into driveway it started. Like a kind of grinding noise, not super loud but perfectly loud enough to hear.
Earlier in the day I noticed car was not changing up on aceleration as fast as normal and on slowing down it was a little jerky on change down.
Any thoughts on problem?

First thing you need to do is check the fluid in the transmission checking the colour of it and that you have enough in there.

Is there a filler / dipstick for that? I cannot see one under the bonnet

Sadly not.
The car needs to be on a lift and up to temperature running.
The plug is on the side of the box and you check it there.
If you can find a automatic transmission specialist to check as it can be a messy job.

Just driven the car a couple of miles as wife was convinced it would be a stone stuck in one of the calipers. Drove car in reverse for a few yards and that must have flicked it out because problem has now totally gone away.
1/ Can't believe how much noise a stone in the brakes can make, the din was horrendous.
2/ Can't believe wife was right!
Anyway happy days. As an aside for future reference can I assume gearbox level is checked at service carried out by Ferrari dealership?

I would certainly hope so but do ask for it to be done.
Worth considering getting it changed if 10 years old and done 60K.
