Hi Enzo

Back in January you kindly advised me on how to replace my rear springs with lower ones, very helpful.

Well, I bought some new ones from Maserati so that Falkner Springs could make me a pair with identical compression rate but 25mm lower and set about my task after already spending some £200 odd pounds on the bits.

Clearly you have never replaced the springs on a QP before and where you got your information from one can only guess. Was it the AA guide to general maintenance?

It is not a case of just taking out the boot liner and undoing a few nuts as you say but more like taking out the boot liner and all the other bits of liner then take out the fire wall, yes the fire wall, you didn't mention that did you, then take out the fuel tank and supply lines along with the masses of other stuff in the way and I know you didn't mention that either, did you?.

Kind regards

.... and you think that this post contributes anything ..........

For the short while I have been here I have found everyone to be really well meaning and helpful, and in particular Enzo.

I cannot beleive you even contemplated the job without detailed planning as to what it may involve .... especially if you are not a mechanic -

My angst was because I explained I was capable with spanners but not a mechanic and my question was ' how difficult is it to change the rear springs on a QP'. the response I received convinced me to progress my intention to change the springs. Had that advice been accurate I wouldn't have bothered.

BJ, I would venture that this is not the best way to make friends and influence people. Mechanical advice on here is given as a starting point unless accompanied by photos. You fill in the gaps by asking Indies or someone you know who has done the job before. The aggressive nature of your post will do you no favours on here I'm afraid. In the meantime, I hope you can find a way to remedy your problem without too much further expense. Regards.

Well BJL123, all I can do is apologise, it was not my intention to mislead you in any way...
The information I posted came from the Maserati Technical Documentation I have.
I shall certainly think twice before posting anything in future .
Regards,
Enzo.

Enzo, please don't stop posting as most of us appreciate your advice, take it as such and act on it accordingly. Regards.

Hi BJL,

It's evident that you're aggrieved, for which I for one am sorry, but your post is out of order and although it's to be welcomed that you've edited it, that is not enough.

Please do remember that this is a forum. We're lucky to have very fews rules imposed, but one we self-impose is common courtesy.

For the nature and tone of your post (not the subject itself), please issue an apology.

With thanks,

Miles.

To Enzo and others,

When I posted my original request for advice on how to change the springs I was surprised by the speed and comprehensive nature of the response. This gave me good encouragement to get on and do something I had been planning for a long time. After securing all the parts and having shortened springs made I and a mahcanic (not of the Maserati pursuation) started this morning in earnest to follow the description willingly given. By lunchtime it was clear we were not going to complete the job without very nearly taking the back end of the car to bits. Had anything like the amount of work involved been offered as advice I would have binned the whole idea. I was to say the least exremely frustrated, partly with myself for accepting the credibility of the advice, but also for the time and effort wasted in what for me turned into a futile exorcise.

I accept that you gave the info in good faith and fully believed you were helping me and so for that I apologise for the tone of my post. It was not meant as aggressive, far from, it was meant to express my utter disapointment which you have to admit, it does quite well. I once again apologise for the tone and perceived aggressive nature of my reaction to this mornings fiasco.

A bit late now bit in the past I've always done a dummy run before attempting to work on my own cars. Sometimes a job that looks simple can be quite complicated as manufacturers seem to place bolts in areas where access is pretty awkward and/or requires other none related parts to be removed first.
