QPV Window lift

Hi guys,

Hopped into the car this morning and lowered the driver's window, or at least tried to...

It came down maybe 2 inches and stopped, won't go back up or down further.

Not sure what's happened as the windows have worked perfectly up until now, but after some fiddling, the window now slides all the way up and all the way down - but only by hand. Seems the glass has come out of the window lift channel?

OR the mechanism is shot and allowing the window to move freely. Hope its the former not the latter...

I need to get behind the door trim to have a look. If anyone has experienced similar or knows the right way to strip the door trim down I'd appreciate some advice please.

On a side note, I have a workshop manual for the 3200 but is something similar available for the QP? maybe that should be a separate thread....

Do you hear the motor engaging when you press the window button?
If you do and it doesn't move, then the elevator is broken.

If it doesn't make any noise it's possibly something electrical but the window should not move freely by hand unless you broke something or slide the window off it's rail

Thanks Jorge, the motor still works fine. I have stripped the door down (how to guide on Maserati Life BTW) The cable is still connected at all points and inside the pulleys, but is loose. I'm trying to figure out exactly how the system works but don't know how the motor acts on the cable.

The glass is in its runners but can be slid up and down by hand.

All I did was hit the down button when the window was in the fully up position.

I once took apart a system from another car and the motor is coupled to the cable via a pulley with a rubber mass inside to dampen the force of the window when it hits the end of the travel.

This rubber damper eventually tears apart and the motor free spins.
It's usually not repairable and you will need to replace the whole system

Thanks. I'll try to get it into the mechanic today for a diagnostic, but I think you're probably right. I object to the "throw it away and buy a new one" mentality but it seems in this case that might be the only solution.

Mechanic confirms mechanism is shot. The motor is spinning but something inside is chewed up. Eurospares are orering me a new one from Italy. Surprising that they don't have in the shelf given the apparent failure rate. The window channels do look pretty dry so I will get them to re-lube all 4 doors as a precaution.
