QPV FAQ (probably)

Hello all, I recently joined as I've long loved the looks of the QPV and always wondered about owning one. It feels like if I'm going to do it, I ought to do it soon.

However, by any logical measure it would be an utterly stupid idea. I barely drive any miles at all these days as I work remotely, my only need would be for occasional trips to the office and occasional longer runs "up north". The car would have to live on the driveway too.

Yet I'm still tempted, even if it was just to own one for a year. I could say I'd owned a Maserati!

What are the pitfalls? From reading around on here, it sounds like the subframes are made of paper mache - is there any mitigation for that? And electrical gremlins? Any other things you'd be looking for when buying?

I understand these cars don't like being sat without a battery conditioner, is that because the battery is a bit under-spec or the alarm drains it? Again anything that can be done there?

Feel free to put me off :)

There is no reason whatsoever for anyone to contemplate Maserati ownership.
They can bankrupt you.
They can cause insomnia.
They can break otherwise stable relationships.
You would have to be insane to even think about Maserati ownership.
Posting on this forum indicates irreversible insanity.

That do?

11 years ownership and counting.

I could be tempting fate here: but if you count wheel bearings as consumables (I've replaced two over the years), the only failure I've experienced on mine is one coil pack.

Every service I ask them to check the sub-frame carefully and it is rock solid.

They are not cheap cars: VED is high, insurance can be high, servicing is a lot more than a standard Eurobox, and consumables like tyres are expensive. Petrol too, obviously.

Thanks all. I'm not entirely put off yet so you've all more work to do :D

One other question, I've searched and it looks like the boot is pretty small (amazing design effort for such a massive car) - can it get a full size suitcase in?

Thank you for giving me an excuse to post this photo yet again!

This is two medium cases and one small one.

The fitted luggage set will solve packing issues. We go to Europe every in our QPV (just back) 3 peeps for 3 weeks and the fitted luggage set plus soft bag all go in the boot. They are quite hard to get hold of, but getting similar made would solve the issue.

The question was born more from the rather one-off and obscure reason that I may need to do an airport pickup later in the year for Americans arriving from America and there's no way they'll turn up with conveniently small luggage :D But it seemed a reasonable question on the practicality front because I already have an impractical car.

I think you’re just trying to find reasons NOT to do it ;)

Just make sure you get a good one, you will not be disappointed, they are fantastic cars and most importantly you’ll have a smile on your face every single minute of ownership (well nearly every minute if you don’t get a good one)

Why not hire a pick up truck for the day that the Americans from America arrive and they can dump all their bags into that and keep the Italian beauty for more significant journeys?
