QP V intermittent stereo

Hi, I wonder if there are any ideas on this. The stereo display comes up but there isn't any sound, except on rare occasions when it works fine. It is a 08 plate ZF 4.2.
The amp has been replaced (it was a battery drain) but otherwise no other clues!
Any suggestions welcome.
