Puncture Repair?

What's the collective wisdom on puncture repairs? I have a screw in my 3200GT's rear tyre, about 1" into the tread area. I would prefer not to pay £450 for a pair of new Pirelli P0 Rosso tyres whilst there's still plenty of tread in them. However, this is my first really fast car so I'd like appreciate some more experienced views. Thanks,Steve.

I'll put my head up with what is likely to be the unpopular view: Get it repaired. It'll be fine (as long as they say it *can* be repaired).

If it's far enough in, get it repaired. 1" in ,if the tyre is a 285, may be borderline.

You are close to the shoulder and it may not be suitable for a repair...but if it is far enough in the repair should be fine.

Had a slow puncture in the Spyder which I repaired yesterday. Screw again was the culprit.
I tend to trust the guys doing the work. They should know what is safe or not. If they weren't pushing you to buy new tyres then it would suggest they are perfectly happy to repair.

If a tyre place will repair it, then I'd use it.

We were speaking about tyre repairs earlier this year when I was doing some driver training. The driver training centre did repairs using those cheap kits you can buy on eBay with a lot of success - this was on cars that are driven hard all of the time and used for teaching how vehicles spin etc.

Put another way, do you always replace all tyres on a car as soon as you buy it...?

If it's on the tread then it can be fixed, I've done this a few times, on my daily though. I have a tyre repair kit with the sticky rubber plugs. Never had a problem with them. I only started using them when I had a thread puncture and my neighbour brought one over and help me do the repair. He work for VW and has one insiide his car all the time.

On that link to Black circles for v rated tyres and above it states zero repairs.
Aren't Maser tyres rated V and above?

Take another look. The section you refer to is for motorcycle & scooter cross ply tyres. No mention of speed rating for car tyres. Modern Masers will have Y rated radials, but it's irrelevant.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'd already found that Blackcircles were much cheaper than others for replacements. (I'd need to check carefully that it's the right tyre - lots of different P0s out there.) At 265mm and 65% 'area t' you'd need to be more than 1.8" into the tread. This seems ridiculous but I'm probably too near the sidewall. Steve.

Almost. Assuming your 3200GT is not a commercial vehicle, it's 70% and 1.6" or 40mm. Better, but not hugely :)

Just get it fixed, lets face it, how many times are you going to be doing 150mph this year!

Just measured it and it's barely 1'' in so I gave up on a repair. However, it turns out that the tyres are more worn than I thought so I just ordered new ones from Blackcircles to be fitted locally at ATS. Two rears for £334 fitted, balanced etc. leaves me fairly happy. (I bought them before I read the Asda suggestion and I'm not going to look now in case they are cheaper.)

Everybody says repair if possible - which is an unusually strong consensus.

Thanks,
Steve.
