Pulled over in a car park

I just had the Police use their Blue lights on me as i was parking in a hotel car park !!
They had been driving towards me just a minute before hand and they asked what speed i had been doing. to which i replied i wasnt sure !
They proceeded to check out my ownership, insurance Licence etc before saying that they thought i had been travling in excess of 100mph in a 60mph limit, but they couldn't prove it so they were giving me a stern warning and wanted to make it clear that if they could then i would be losing my licence !
So I nodded, said ok and made a look of complete Contrition.
I then waked off feeling very relieved and thinking I really need to check my speed more often !!!

The price we pay to live in a civilised society.......being made feel very small and inadequate.......by those who possess more "power" than we do......

If you were doing a huge speed in a 60...well......

What you need to remember here is the Police try and get you to admit to your offence. If you do admit then it is noted in the officers book and can be used as evidence against you in a conviction or fine.

If you do what Nick did then the ownese is on the Police to prove that you were guilty of an offense, and thus very hard to prove.

So, a lesson to us all is be very very polite but admit to nothing.

On a social responsibility note, speeding is very dangerous and could result in the injury or death of the innocent bystander. Not saying that I am whiter than white here, far from it, just something to keep in mind.

Having said that Matt, IMO, it's the incorrect use of speed that is the danger. Like just about anywhere, there is a school near me on a road with a 30 limit; on a saturday afternoon it is safe to do 60. At 08.30 on a weekday it is dangerous to do 20. However, the scuffers don't, generally, take that into account. If you are doing over 30 at anytime, tough.

Hmm...if you were doing well in excess of 60, then I think its their duty to give you a bit of a feel.

[Rambling]Completely agree with Matt - gotta be careful with speeding. I too love to open the car up (and like the OP have had my collar felt, in a nice friendly warning kind of way) but it has to be done sensibly. If I got done for doing 100mph on an empty motorway, 5am on a dry, still, summer morning, I'd feel cheated. If I got done doing 34 outside a school, I'd be ashamed but take it on the chin.

Shame speed cameras have taken the ability to use sense away from drivers - now it seems to be "unless you've got a speed camera, I can do what I want", rather than educating people to drive to their surrounding. Dumbing down society again.....[/rambling]

I was once caught doing 68 in a 30mph zone by a policeman with a speed gun. Due to the particular road circumstances at the time of the incident, I 'only' got three points and a £60 fine.

.....you mean you dropped a new £100 note on the roadway at his foot....;)....;)

Nope. I was in Crews Hill, on a road that is straight, long and open. It is lined for a mile on either side by garden centres. I was driving to a local Pistonheads' meet. The extenuating circumstance was it was 8:30 on a sunny, summer, Sunday evening when all of the centres had been long shut. The road was deathly quiet. It's such a road that would have a variable speed limit should such a thing exist.

The police had obviously read the thread advertising the meet and were waiting. I was the fool who got caught. Someone even flashed me in warning as I crested the hill that leads to the road and I ignored them.

I'm was a fool. But, after he told me that I was looking at a ban, he was very nice and became more interested in my Hawk than my offence.

Last year I was pulled over at 5am in the morning on the M61 north of Manchester, quiet hardly any cars.
The police officer, on his own, gave me a right roasting for speeding, claiming I was doing in excess of 90mph.
I said I didn't think I was going that fast etc in the nicest possible way (was actually doing 80 on the cruise control, so more like 75 true speed), he rambled some more, 'don't do it again' then left! He did not even ask me for my name!
Think he was bored!!!

Then on another occasion got pulled over in a demo BMW 325i covered in the garage stickers, that they had given me while my car was in for servicing.
The officer again came over strong claiming I was speeding (which I wasn't), but he thought I was a salesman giving a demo to a customer, but then when I told him I was not a salesman and my passenger was a work collegue and we where on our way to a business meeting, 'on your way, watch your speed!' Again, never asked for my name.

It does taint ones feeling for the men in blue at times.

I can cope with being given a ticket but not being given a lecture by some young guy who was bullied at school
